Catching up Gen III a good idea?

Well, since I did not have a GBA back then, I could not play the third gen Pokemon games. Now that I have a DS and my Pokedex is at around 400+, I am now interested to get the Gen III games so I can complete as much of my Pokedex as possible. However, is there anything that I should know before I take the plunge? :confused:
 
If you'd rather not buy the Gen 3 games to get those you can't in D/P. You could trade for them over WiFi. The only Pokemon not obtainable in the D/P games are the starters and the Legendarys from all the Regions. And i'm sure someone has those you need for trade. But if you'd like to get the gba games to play and get those you need. Emerald would be your best choice in that it has nearly every Legendary in it from the Gen 3 Region.
 
Such as the FR/LGs of Mewtwo, the Legendary birds, the Legendary Run-Aways...
 
The Problem with the GTS is that you have to have "Seen" the Pokemon in order to Search for them on the GTS. So if you haven't Seen them, the GTS doesn't do you any good. That's why Most of us can't get Darkrai/Shaymin/Arceus on the GTS, because we haven't seen it. And if you have Seen it, you probably Cheated or someone did. And if that's the case, if you cheated to see it, why not cheat to get it too.

You can get some of the Legendarys without getting FR/LG. Get Colosseum and/or Gale of Darkness. Mew, Celebi, Deoxys, and Jirachi are the ones that have special requirements to obtain. Moltres/Articuno/Zapdos and Lugia/Ho-Oh can be gotten from the GC games. Lati@s can be gotten from R/S. Jirachi is the Prerelease Bonus disk of Colosseum. The rest were Event give aways or Items transfered into the Various games.

The GBA games tend to be cheaper, easier to find someone to battle with, more portable, require no Gamecube to Game Boy Cable (which I'm pretty sure is not Wii-compatible), require no Gamecube, are better liked by people who like 1v1 vs. 2v2, and quicker to play through.
 
Emerald is the only real 3rd Gen game you'd need I think. Emerald is overall the best version, as you can catch nearly all the legendaries from the RSE games. Maybe also consider FR or LG, as they're only about $19.99.

True, but were talking about Completing a Pokedex, not Battling someone. If Battling was the interest, then yes, GBA would be a good choice. But if you don't know many people who are into Pokemon, then it would limit your Opponents a bit. BR is lame in that it has little else to do in the Game. But if you don't have many People to Battle with, it's great for use on the WiFi with Random Battle. Only draw back is all the People using Ubers in their Teams.

I used my Wii as a GameCube for XD - it worked just fine. You'd still need the GC-GBA cable to transfer at the end.
