Western Canadian "October 19th, 2013" TCG Regional Championship

Looks like there's a $20 ante for this event - that's a first. So if I go all in on the first round and bomb out, can I buy back in? And how does the pot get divvied up at the end of the day? Oh wait, this is Pokemon, not poker...Pokermon?

    2013-06-05 PLF Ghetsis 101/115

Can be useful in just about any deck, but not necessarily useful in every game. If you include it in your deck, maximize its playability by pairing it with Shadow Triad: discard the Ghetsis and retrieve it with Shadow Triad when your opponent fills their hand; or when you need to know if they...

    2013-05-31 PLF Thundurus EX 38/110

Awesome starter for all kinds of decks, not only doing 30 damage for one energy, but also providing energy acceleration for the plasma/plasma badged pokemon. AND it makes retrieving special energies from the discard pile a very viable option. Best played in TDK, Big Basics, and fighting decks...

Changes Coming to Pokémon TCG Online Code Redemptions

This is not good for business or players. I'm guessing I'm not the only player whose online collection doesn't look like their RL collection. While I enjoyed the pre-releases and winning tournament packs when Call of Legend and Emerging Powers came out, I made minimal investments in those sets...

    2012-12-15 BCR Stoutland 122

Another one of the "fun to try, but frustrating to play" cards. Hopefully something comes along (Ghetsis?) that makes this card more playable. Right now, it's ridiculously clunky. 10/10 for potential 5/10 for playability

    2012-12-05 BCR Raticate 105

Currently Raticate is fun to try, but frustrating to play. With the next set though: Raticate + PHB = except where Raticate vs Landorus Ex = :frown: 5/10

    2012-11-26 BCR Blastoise 031

Awesome ability (can attach to any pokemon); great weakness; terrific hit points - what's not to love? Retreat cost is painful, but when paired with Keldeo Ex, it's almost irrelevant. 9/10

    2012-11-23 BWP56 Empoleon

Only reason to run this Empoleon over the DEX one is for the (potential) benefit of discarding your opponent's key energies. Given that most decks are running quite a bit of energy these days, though, the value as a tech your Empoleon DEX deck is limited. 5/10

    2012-11-12 BCR Skyla 134/149

Skyla FTW Awesome card - adds tons of consistency to any deck. Almost makes Stage 2's playable (almost). 9/10

TCGO PVP Soft Release date and news

Says the hardcore gamer. You may not have noticed, but there's been an explosion of casual gaming and even indie games for which Apple's products (the handhelds especially) often offer a better play experience than other platforms. I'll be interested to compare the gaming experience for the...

What ever happened to Lanturn Prime?

Lanturn Prime was a great tech for wall decks like The Truth or Gothitelle. When those decks went out of favor, there was no reason to tech it in anymore.

    2012-02-15 ND Vanilluxe 033

I love this guy + Terrakion for taking out the current lightning and fire BDIFs. Wish there was some kind of energy accelerator that would work with these guys, though... 6/10

    2012-02-14 ND Shaymin EX 005

Shaymin Ex plus Energy Switch = game winner Well worth playing in any Toolbox deck like 6 corners deck

    2011-12-02 NV Chandelure 060

Lots of fun to play with Dodrio and switches - will be awesome when warp point comes back in play

    2011-11-25 NV Kyurem 034

Kyurem is just too good with eviolite to keep him alive - play the spread until you have to go for Outrage; combine him with Reshiram to take care of weakness (and Chansey) as well as Electrode Prime to accelerate the energies. 8/10

Need advice on building a Serperior-themed deck :C

Play it with a 2-2 Sunflora line to help get out the Serperiors Play it with a 1-1 Dodrio (UD) to give you free retreat Play it with Vileplume to slow down your opponent OR play it with the upcoming Rocky Helmet to increase your damage output Oh, and don't forget a 1-1 Metapod line to help with...

    2011-10-14 EP Cheren 091

Fairly useless in a basic or stage 1 deck where Juniper or Sages provide much more speed. Can be essential (especially if paired with Research Record) in a stage 2 deck where you just need that candy or Stage 2 pokemon to get going, but I'm inclined to go with Engineers instead 6/10

    2011-09-19 EP Beartic 030

Should play better than it does - our battleroads had many flavors of this deck, but none of them went anywhere. Needs more damage output - rocky helmet may help - until then, it's just a fun deck. 5/10

    2011-09-17 EP Sigilyph 042

Best splashable tech for cards that are weak to Psychic (like Gothitelle), and not a bad all-around tech if you play DCE 6/10
