Theres A Lochness Monster In My Mini Wheats! (deck article and masters states report)

Not really. Assuming the player picks up his cards like we all do, lines will be clumped, as will certain amounts of energy, and pokemon will be in given places. ( Not necessarily the same every time, but the benched pokes will typically be in the same place in the deck. ) The discard pile...

Theres A Lochness Monster In My Mini Wheats! (deck article and masters states report)

@NoPoke/'Mom: Just thinking about it, without adding bonus mathematical effects, I can pretty much say: Well, without adding a regular shuffle on top of a pile shuffle, it ensures a cleaner distribution of cards without the added possibility of clumping. It would technically work with any...

    Legend box

Legend Box is a -trap-. I think it is ultimately a card that looks enticing on paper, and is horribly inconsistent and barely usable in execution. I've built multiple Legend-based decks, and though Sage's Training, Junk Arm, and an assortment of other things help you pull off multiple legend...

    Tanking the top cut report!

So, a bunch of us players from KY head up Thursday, so we can all get set up. I was hella amused at the infinitely shorter line for the bye winners, and so I got to do a bit of exploring the venue while everyone in my group is waiting for registration. I'm also amused because I have no idea what...

Consistency, and why it should matter more to you

I read that as he separates in to three piles, Pokemon, trainer, energy. Then he sets out pokemon, trainer, pokemon, trainer, energy. He's not doing specific cards, he's simply making sure his deck isn't clumped. That -is- the way I'm saying that. He says he does shuffle. At the end of the...

Consistency, and why it should matter more to you

He didn't waste his time, he put his own mind at ease. It's the same thing as a magic player "land piling" - having a specific form of shuffling so that ( in a 20 - 40 ), you set up card, card, land, card, card, land. Then, you shuffle. The deck is randomized, but it prevents clumping all...

    Tyraniclypse

I disagree with your examination of Donphan. It may not be as popular as, say, Jumpluff or SP decks, I would estimate that it will be a much larger part of nationals than people are willing to assume. However, I think Tyranitar will be a very interesting thing to do, and Nidoqueen is in my...

Consistency, and why it should matter more to you

This is by far my favorite article on the 'Gym. ( And to say it isn't an article is folly. ) Great job, Ryan. I love anything that can show with the numbers that consistency is key.

Why do Pokémon players shun creativity?

Exactly my point, and what I was asking. o.o

Why do Pokémon players shun creativity?

"Opinionated, unhelpful" is an opinion in itself. I might not be helping with a set goal, but I'm adding a bit of realism to the scenario. Look at it this way. When the Ball engine came out, it was because some players were looking for an alternative. They found it. I support looking for...

    Blazechomp

Yeah, that's me. I'm not sure what the Gyarados lost to, I was a little preoccupied. @_@ Sorry I can't be more help on that, but I can ask around.

Why do Pokémon players shun creativity?

Rules of deckbuilding? You're right - the point was simply that you provided a reason for building a deck without Claydol and Uxie, on a premise of an assumed format. The counterpoint was simply that it would be a waste of someone's time to do so, specifically because the theoretical format may...

Why do Pokémon players shun creativity?

"You people"? That's interesting. I think the consensus is that a lot of players who "feel differently about how to play" have an aspect of rudeness about themselves, as well. Telling me I'm a sell out because I choose to play a more mainstream deck is the same as me telling you that your deck...

    Blazechomp

Let me rephrase: In the meta I played in ( MO ), I saw one gyarados. He went 7 - 0 in swiss, but lost in top cut. I was expecting vastly reduced gyarados numbers, because the Jumpluff hype was there. -Shrug- I was right at the time, but I can't give any sort of guarantee about the meta at nats.

Why do Pokémon players shun creativity?

It's unfortunate, but sometimes being nice just doesn't work any more. If you say you don't have claydol/uxie, and have no way of getting them, I have to wonder where you were with leagues, when they were given out as promos. I have to wonder why you couldn't trade for them now that they've lost...

Regigigas Lock; It Ain't Dead Yet

Cetra, this decklist is really nice. I fully plan on working up my own list - it seems to me we have very similar playstyles ( My most prominent and favorite deck was AMU, too! xD ) and I would really like to talk to you about making this deck run more quickly. Either way, I really wish you...

    Blazechomp

May very well be luck, but thusfar, I haven't lost to luxchomp. You have to know when to shuffle pokemon around and when to jet shoot. Just throwing out the jet shoot is stupid, and will probably lead to your opponent getting a bigger lead than you. Also, I went 3 - 1 Blaziken and 2 - 2...
