So, those are all votes on someone else' post. Frankly, no one cares whether you or I agree with another poster.

If you want to agree and ADD something to the point, then great!

What if one was say, being persecuted by tl;dr(s).
So they decide to shorten their sentances by just saying stuff like "I'm sorry".

You can't even say I'm sorry... :/

This just seems like it's inviting copy/paste text macros or something. I'm tempted to start, but too lazy to bother.

I think for the trading forum it should be allowed, because post under 17 are fairly common. Why do I need to type 17 characters to tell someone no to there insane trade offer. Seems like a bit much to me.

you're not getting it: we want posts to have more content than just 'CML', ' i agree', 'gj, i <3 u', 'rofl', 'word', 'c u at nats' or the other shorthand nonsense that's been too prevalent lately. if you don't have anything more to say than that, why post?

let me call attention to the 'gym rules:
The Rules

Purpose of the PokéGym The PokéGym is hosted by Team Compendium and is intended to provide resources for Pokemon players and collectors as well as a place for members to share information and experiences about the Pokémon Trading Card Game, related games, gameplay, rules and organizing.

Contributions

Every PokéGym member may come to be considered a contributor by establishing a history of good posts.

Good posts
are contributions to the Pokémon TCG community consisting of:
  • information
  • perspective
  • experiences
  • resources
  • alternative or successful approaches
related to the Pokémon TCG and other Pokémon games.

Special contributions of articles are encouraged and should be posted in the article submission forums. The standards for article format and suggestions for getting your article approved are available in the article submission FAQ.

Regular contributions of unique information are encouraged. You can receive a page or pages to edit, more image quota, and other resources that you use to update your contributions. If you have been contributing unique information and need more resources, please contact the Admins.

Posting Rules

Some posts are not permitted on the PokéGym. Members are responsible to show respect to each other and for the purpose of the PokéGym in each of their posts.
Thank you for not posting:
  1. references to profanity
  2. personal attacks on individuals
  3. apparently just for the sake of arguing
  4. content or links beyond a PG rating
  5. unhelpful, unkind or rude remarks
  6. the same point or request over and over
  7. polls, duplicate topics or personal requests
  8. off-topic remarks, personal info or links to other sites
  9. that your or someone else's opinion or group isn't welcome
  10. too much information about your personal life or experiences
  11. inside jokes, terms or acronyms not understood by the majority
  12. about your annoyance with this list or its enforcement
In addition, please use only one account, do not post in inactive threads or to advertise other sites, follow individual forum posting guidelines, make all public communication in English, and report posts violating The Rules using the report button.

Enforcement of these rules
is performed according to the impression each post leaves on the judgment of the PokéGym Moderators. All members should report posts that violate these rules (and may politely remind others of the rules, but without threatening any enforcement). The Rules will primarily be enforced with warnings or infractions, with optional deletes or editing. This leaves the member with a clear reminder of the reason for any enforcement and assures that all staff have a concise view of a member's history. Infraction points assist staff with being consistent and impartial in enforcement of The Rules.

Appeals of infractions and warnings may be made by a polite and well-reasoned post in the Team Compendium contact forum. In nearly all cases, Team Compendium will uphold the staff judgment. Appeals of bans may be made via well-reasoned proposal sent via the comment form. Members are invited to review the pages listing the current infractions and infraction points, staff roles and staff review.
purposely posting spam in 'too short' posts to bypass the character count could be considered a violation of points #3, 6, and 12...

It's a good idea, but my complaint is that anyone can put ......................., ----------------------, ______________, ect to lengthen something like "LOL" or "sucks" or some other useless post.

And then you get shot down for spam.
The only place this is a problem is in the trading forums, so they should just fix it there.
You heard me mods, FIX IT NOW.

Good point, though that would probably happen anyways.
As for on the trading forum, it is anoying (not too much so. We can add ..., ---, __ or just write one more sentance.). Big deal.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Good point, since it won't exactly do any harm to write 7 or so more characters..

Would this be acceptable?

"We have a deal. You just lost the game."
Since he just needed to know whether or not the trade was accepted, I figured it was ok to make him lose the game.

Thanks for making me lose The Game as well. :frown:

Anyway, this is pretty much showing what I said about copypasta text macros. It goes from someone simply replying "gg" to replying with something like, "You just got owned, sonny-Jim." The same level of non-useful posting is still conveyed, and it only looks more informative.

#50 - So, including unhelpful junk in your post to 'fill it out' is fine for a warning or infraction. Much better to say. We have a deal, thanks! In summary, don't be 'clever' be a contributor.

#51 - You got owned sonny is potentially an unkind remark but using tech to expand abbreviations is not per se a violation. If you quote something huge and say, "This is quoted for truth." the post is still not contributing whether you typed it or used a macro.

As other members have pointed out, there are many many boards that have similar or higher minimums. Out point is, post something that adds to the DISCUSSION, not just agreement or disagreement (poll), props or shouts.

In trades, you are interacting with your customers; probably more profitable in the long run not to use shorthand.

Ok, Im tired of reading this thread when it is going no where. Some of us don't like the rule and are complaning about it, while other people are posting to support this rule (while one of those supporters are posting using two screennames, you might want to IP trace those posting in this thread). Those who arent posting in this thread obviously dont care if we have this rule or not, so whats the harm in just making the rule go away. Its pritty obvious that this retarded rule isnt going to change anytime soon despite the complants here. People on the gym will find a way to bend this rule and only 10% will get caught and all of that 10% of them will only get a slap on the wrist and come back and eventally just do it again.

Go ahead and give me my 10 infraction points for "Posting about my annoyance with the rules or their enforcement" and lock this thread

I think that this limit is necessary.

There was one person in CaC who, whenever anyone commented on his card, he would respond, "True". Now he just adds smileys to short posts.

we can't always be everywhere at once, much as we'd like to. if you see someone blatantly spamming their 'CML' or other such post in order to get past the limit, please help us out and use the 'report' button on the left to bring it to our attention.

doing so helps us enforce the rules, and also helps prevent the 'well, THEY do it and get away with it, so why can't i?!!?' feelings when people ARE called on it.

Some posts are like a hot girl's Bikini.

The shorter the better, all that extra material is just unnecessary. :thumb:

Didn't I ask for this to be locked a few post ago?

Because long replies like that are unnessesary if someone is simply asking whether or not a deal is acceptable.

"OK user name we have a deal." 17 characters without the user name...

"Yes i can make that trade" More than 17 character reply.

Pretty easy to post 17 characters when trading.

And should your last post be interpreted as a threat? :nonono:
