Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2008 Canadian Nats Results

I wanted to stick around to watch the playoffs but after my run in with a very very rude head judge I chose to leave as my day was kinda ruined after that. No place for rudeness IMO and showed very little class for a judge in a high caliber event. =/ Couldn't even get a proper ruling on a card and the judge of the age group didn't even give the correct ruling as DRE does affect the damage of magmortars fireball bazooka's bench damage and he said it did not......Head judge??? Oh wait he will scream at us for asking a simple ruling qestion......:nonono: Sour grapes??? I don't think so.

Wow mike. This is very surprising.

You're a professor, league leader, and prior judge at some of our events. You are one of the last people that I would think would come here and badmouth our national event, the judging, and me personally. As we've always told the young kids, if you have a problem with a ruling, call the HJ DURING the match. Not much we can do after the match. Just so you know, I corrected that judge in regards to that ruling subsequent to that round. If you had called it to my attention right way, it would have been corrected immediately.

As for your perceived rudeness on my part. I was in the middle of discussing a ruling with my senior's judge, and it was a difficult situation. When you approached me, I asked you to wait for me outside the play area, and I'll come talk to you after. You had obviously finished your match at the time, and I was in the middle of ruling on an ongoing match. Obviously, your question would have had to take second priority. When I was finished, I came to look for you, and you were gone. The next thing I know, I find you at the podium bad mouthing me to the TO. If you still had a question for me at that point, I would have been happy to answer it for you.

Scream at you? I don't think anyone playing at any of our events have ever heard me raise my voice, let alone scream. If I ruined your day because i asked you to wait for a moment, there's not much I can say about that. I'm happy to air this out with you in public, if you need this public forum to vent. As an alternative, you have my personal number. You're welcome to call me anytime.

One thing I have to say, if this is the biggest issue with judging to come out of the biggest Canadian event of the year. I consider it a huge success. We did our jobs fairly, and the event ran smoothly. Now, if we can only get everyone to put out their prize cards at the beginning of the match!!!

Thanks to all the players and judges for making my job easy.

I do want to apologize to Henry for what happened to him with the standings. We had made a mistake in entering his match slip during an earlier round. Unfortunately, he had not noticed our mistake, and proceeded to play two more rounds before bringing it to our attention. At that point, it is impossible to go back and change the results without messing up everybody's standings. We will always try to keep the standings at the very top as clean as possible. I'm sorry that we couldn't rectify the error. If we could have, we would. This is a reminder to everyone to check their win/loss on the pairings sheet, and standings sheets when they are posted. Mistakes are easy to correct when they're caught at that point. Again, Henry, my personal apologies.

Good luck to everybody at worlds.
