A Few Questions Concerning Acquiring New Cards

I want to ask a few questions on how to get cards online.

As I understand it, the idea was to buy a real booster pack or a pre-made deck and get a redeem code that's inside it.

My questions are:

When did this start?
Is there a way to redeem codes from earlier generation of cards (I stopped at 2nd generation)?
Is there another way to get virtual boosters online?
According to the EULA that there will be a wipe after the end of the beta phase, what will happen to the already redeemed codes?

I thank you in advance.

1.when PTCGO was in first beta stage
2.no,only black&white forward,but u can buy a few earlier packs aswell
3.yes,by buying codes on various pages, most notably pokegym from users which is the best i believe, with the best prices
4.there will be no wipe most probably, answered by a PTCGO mod/admin here

hope this helps ,if not feel free to ask any/all PTCGO questions here, there are plenty of pre-beta users here with information about PTCGO

I would guess that eventually all those tokens you get while playing the game will let you buy cards/packs/starters.

Why would anybody buy codes? They aren't really "worth" anything since the cards are not really "yours" in the online game.

If people don't want the codes, give them to somebody who does.

I've never bought or sold code cards, but you have a somewhat odd definition of "worth" (and an only-partially-correct definition of "yours").

I think what you're trying to ask is "Why buy code cards when they only give you virtual cards?" The obvious answer is "Some people enjoy playing games with virtual cards."

I meant that if you try to trade the code cards (in the physical game) it's pretty hard to get anybody who wants to trade the real cards for a code that gets you virtual cards.

As for if the virtual cards are yours or not, it's really up to Nintendo to decide if they will let you keep all of them when the game finally is fully implemented (I would hope the non BW cards DO go away even if they have to redesign the trainer challenge).

If you don't want the code cards that come in packs, you can send them all to me...

I do enjoy the virtual game, since it's a lot quieter than the actual league I attend (though that's fun as well).

Or you could sell them to this guy, or trade 'em (for real cards!) like these two are, etc.

It's not "pretty hard" -- or even hard at all, if you're looking in the right place -- to get people to trade real cards for virtual cards (or, more typically, virtual booster packs); but the exchange rate reflects the relative scarcity. ticka22's comments were spot-on in this regard.

OK then I guess I stand corrected...

When I attend the Boundaries Crossed pre-release I will ask if people want to give me their code cards...
