Ahh, a day in Salem. NW Regionals Report

First, let's get something straight. I didn't win anything. If you're looking for some "Jesus-has-risen-again-hallelujah" decklist to copy, I'm sorry but I'm not your guy. I'm sure you can find something very similar that someone else has posted though, considering I went meta and played LuxChomp. I did have an interesting Mewtwo tech though, thanks to the genius of Andrew, but unfortunately I never had the chance to use it. Anyway, on to the story..

So I get up at like 5:30 and get scared because:
A) I only got 3 hours of sleep and thought my alarm was the fire alarm or something
B) My dad said he was going fishing so I had to get up fast or I wouldn't have a ride to Clint's, meaning no Regionals.

So I get myself up, sing in the shower a little, throw everything I needed for the day in my backpack, grab my pod, and I'm out the door. Get to Clint's at 6:30 on the dot, we pick up Andrew, and we're on our way to Salem, 45 minutes away. The car ride there was interesting. I told Clint about the 12,000 calf raises I did a few days before at track and how I can't straighten my legs fully, and he tells me about a certain... "event" that happens every year that we need to start training for. Sorry kids, can't say it on the gym. :thumb: I'm sure those of you who were with us remember completely though, considering it was the highlight of most of our conversations. We plan to have an epic day, matching our 12,000 calf raises with 12,000 upstrokes. (There's a hint, boys and girls.)

We bust onto the scene, and start practicing a little bit. People show up, friendly exchanges are made, everything is going great. Andrew and I manage to trade for another Gengar X, and then trade a Luxray DP for and Alph Lithograph and a RH Poketurn... good times. I also manage, at some point, to make a very good trade for my friend JT, turning a Gallade E4 Lv. X into a Shaymin Ground Form Lv. X and then into a Luxray GL Lv. X. Yeah. He owes me big time.

We register, play out a few more games, try and cheat the league play system to no avail, and form our 6 person team to try and get a good record and win something out of it. Team Twelve,000 is formed. (Pronounced Twelve Thousand.) And then round 1 starts.

Round 1: Washington girl with Blaziken FB/Infernape/Smeargle tech?
So we start, and I open Luxray active with another Luxray and a Garchomp on bench to her Blaziken FB active and 2 Chimchars. Somehow she managed to make me mulligan twice. Anywho, I go first, attach pass. She drops a smeargle or something, attaches, and brings up my other luxray and burns it. I attach to Garchomp, gain in hand and the Lv. x, and play an SP radar to get Luxray X. She kills Luxray, I send up Garchomp, return KO, smooth sailing from there. She got out a monferno on T4 I think, but she only took the one prize. Nice little warm-up game against someone who has never played competitively before.
1-0

Round 2: Some guy who's been playing for a while with LuxChomp
This one was close. He got Garchomp swinging early, taking prizes off of Uxie and my benched Luxray. I bright looked up some stuff for easy KO's, but he protected his Chomp really well. I couldn't get my Garchomps out, mainly because 1 was prized and I knew he would just snipe the other one off. With no sniping power myself, it was hard to keep up, but a few turns on Luxray, a critical Aaron's Collection, and some flash bite + turn make it possible. Sadly, My flash impact damage accumulated and he was able to take two prizes in one turn when we each had two left. Oh well, the mirror is tough.
1-1

Round 3: Some nobody with Ampharos
Possibly the worst experience I've ever had playing Pokemon. I have a great start, and take 3 easy easy prizes on the first three turns, and spray everything. He candies to an Amphy, and locks my powers with damage bind. I took 1 more prize, and he sends Amphy active. He gets another one on his bench, attaches an energy and a memory berry to the active, and announces that he's going to use Mareep's attack (HGSS). I'm thinking okay, do it, but it's not going to do anything. He calls over a judge to ask if he can attach 2 energy, since the attack says mareep in play and attach to active mareep, but since memory berry changes the name to the actual evolved form. Judge says it's fine, and I argue, but I'm overruled. THERE WERE NO MAREEP IN PLAY. He attaches two energy, and it's my turn. I get off a dragon rush with my active Chomp, but can't knock it out. His next turn, he KO's my Chomp with an attack that he wouldn't have been able to do if he hadn't cheated, and rolls from there, switching between different Ampharos's and accumulating damage on my bench. Eventually he brings up some stupid Bronzong that does damage to me as long as he's active, and my Uxie and Azelf get knocked out simultaneously. Afterwards, I talk to the head judges, with whom the misguided judge had apparently conferred with, and they ruled the call in my favor. Not like it changes my record though, and losing on a fluke like that is stupid. I learned a lesson, to always call over the head judge if a problem arises. Whatevskis.
1-2

Round 4: Ozzy with LuxChomp
Well I'm playing against someone I know. We joke around a little, and I tell him he should just scoop before we even start playing, because it will save him some trouble. Honestly though, I'm scared. Ozzy's a good player, and he's been into competitive games a lot longer than I have. I don't want to lose, but if I'm going to, it's better to lose to him than some Ampharos-playing bald guy... We start, he flips over Luxray, I flip over Luxray Luxray Garchomp. He goes first, attaches, passes. I go, attach electric to benched Luxray, SP radar for Luxray X, and pass. He levels up, brings up my benched one, and flash impacts for 60. But with no other pokemon in play, he has to put the 30 on his active Luxray X.. Unlucky. I go, Cyrus for another radar, Grab Garchomp X, turn Luxray, promote Garchomp, Level up, DCE, Gain in hand, Game. I'm a little shocked, but a lot of Pokemon is luck nowadays. Good Game Ozzy.
2-2

Round 5: Noble Stoneman with Machamp
He plays Machamp. Nuff said. Azelf, Aaron's, Unown G, and a Psychic are prized. I can't stop Uxie X from getting knocked out after I take out one of his Machamps, and that's really it right there. He rolls through some easy prizes while I struggle to get Uxie set up again. Unlucky matchup I guess.
2-3

Round 6: Gustavo Mendez with Gyara/Donphan/Lots of other stuff
Best game of the day. He gets a Donphan T1, and starts destroying my Luxrays. Eventually, I get off a few dragon rushes to put it at 20 HP left with a belt, after he moved it to the bench with a switch. He hits a critical SSU and pulls it up. He starts rebuilding it on the bench, utilizing Sableye to Impersonate. I promote my last Luxray, level up, and bring up his Claydol. I figure Donphan and Gyara are 2 decks that don't run much energy right? He had been discarding a lot of stuff with Felicity's to get magikarps in the discard, and had a belted Gyarados on his bench. He played 2 switches, and has taken 4 prizes, to my 1. I start dragon rushing, burning through resources faster than I should, but I need quick prizes. I rush something silly on the bench, another magikarp I think. He goes, and attaches to Claydol. I know he has 3 energy in hand, because of his scooped Donphan. Well I won't have any of that. I send up the vicious Ambipom G, and start tailcoding off his energy to the combee on his bench. He eventually gives up and attaches his last topdecked fighting to Donphan, for later I'm suspecting. meanwhile, I've been restoring Garchomp. I take out his Combee, along with the energy, and his Claydol is still locked. Eventually, I hit Dol up to 70 with flash bite and 2 claw swipes, and then it's down to drawing and passing for both of us. I know he's going for the switch, and he's deathly close to decking out, so I spray everything. Eventually he scoops, right after I draw the last energy I needed for a dragon rush on his benched Sableye, and have the crobat in hand to knock out the claydol for my last 2 prizes. Revenge for first round at States is complete!
3-3

Round 7: Jerin Head with BlastCatty
He opens Baltoy to my Ambipom. He attaches, psychic balances for 1. I draw, bench 4 pokemon, burn 2 turns to hit his Baltoy up to 30 with flash bite, Uxie set up for 7, first card is the DCE. I show it to him, he groans, game over. We played again, and he showed me how BlastCatty works. I still got him to deck, but he only had 2 prizes left to my 4. We joke around a little bit, swap tournament experiences, have a good time. I'm just happy I went positive overall :thumb:
4-3

So I miss the top cut by a long shot, coming in at 66th overall. I like LuxChomp, but I feel like it's really missing something right now. Maybe it will get better when the new sets are released? Either way, I had a lot of fun during the day. Andrew rocks the party and comes in 2nd, by one prize in game 2 after going 7-0 in Swiss. I think we all had a good time, and were all dead tired on the way back. I get picked up at Clint's at 3 in the morning, and immediately crash when I get home. Almost 24 hours spent in the name of Pokemon.

Everything good:
12,000. Simply the best number ever, and can be related to all things. Including calf raises. And upstrokes.
The event that Team Twelve,000 is attending together next year. Still a secret, still dirty, sorry guys.
Trading for good cards.
Winning more than I did at States.
Singing Jon Lajoie during lunch break, with many members of the female gender present. Yikes.
Watching top cut, I feel like I learned a lot.
Winning sleeves at the league play station, we finally figured out how to cheat the system. Not.
Making some new friends, all of the social aspects and whatnot.
Ludicolo.
Ambipom G being the best card ever, and winning me 2 games. I'm sooo building something centered around it.
Trying to call BJ on Clint's voice command, to no avail.
Washington getting destroyed.
Team Twelve,000 getting 4th out of the teams of 6 there.

Everything bad:
Cheating Ampharos players that keep me from going 5-2, and possibly making the cut.
My phone dying.
Getting back so late. Dang it I need my beauty sleep.
Sleeping in until 1, therefore cancelling that last complaint.
HGSS not being able to flat battle, otherwise I would have done the DS tourny too. Oh well.
