All cards locked for trading

Why are all of my card locked for trading? Even cards I have bought, every single one. I don't get it.

Cards that you get from redeeming codes are tradeable. Everything that you buy with Trainer Tokens is locked to your account. You can either buy code cards online or you can get them from buying actual cards.

Ahh I see, my buddy has never bought or redeemed any codes and has tradeable cards though, but he has also been playing the beta for this for AGES is that why?
