Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Base to Neo Tournament at World's

I'd just use the Japanese errata on Slowking, and remind everybody that Sneasel has 60 HP. But I'm weird...

Though without Slowking does that mean decks will just be packed with Energy Removal and Super Energy Removal, resulting in super aggro decks? (thus making Sneasel eh, on top of having it's special energy being easily removed)
You'd have to fall back on Chaos Gym, No Removal Gym, and Ecogym.

Also rounds would be either 30 or 45 minutes.
Sam Chen brought up a point about there being stally decks.

Thursday or Wednesday are probably the best days to hold something like this due to Friday to Sunday being completely packed.

And what kind of prizing/entry would you guys be interested in seeing?

EDIT: From what I'm seeing from everyone else. They want Slowking to have it's original translated text but have no problems with Sneasel, correct?

I would like that idea.

If I were a judge, I would probably brush up on those cards that are used often and have a lot of text:

Gold Berry (Neo Genesis)
Chaos Gym (Gym Challenge)
Brock's Ninetails (Gym Challenge)
Ditto (Fossil)

If you use the old metal rulings, be sure to brush up on Erika's Dratini and Neo Metal Energy.

Confusion did 20 damage to self and applied weakness and resistance. Check ruling with Dark Primeape.
Mulligan of draw 2 cards.
Retreat once after the modifications?
Retreat on Confusion? It used to be you had to flip to retreat and pay the cost. If heads everything worked as normal, if tails you did not get to retreat. But since you could retreat as many times as you wanted , could you retreat again and pay the cost again for confusion?

What's that ruling with Chaos Gym and Slowking again?

What about the "optional" mulligan with Mysterious Fossil?

Does a Poisoned pokemon with a Pokemon Power get shut down?

Char counters what are those?

As far as I am aware archetypes might be:

Giovanni's Machamp
Blaine's Magmar/Entei/Cleffa
Raindance
Damage Swap
Haymaker
Sneasel / Pichu
Do the Wave
Clefable/Muk
Muk/Dark Muk
Moltres (Fossil)/Dark Vileplume / Entei
Rocket's Zapdos
Babyporter
Dark Charizard w/ Dark Dragonair w/ Entei???
Feraligatr / Parasect
Entei / Magcargo
Slowking / Sneasel
Sabrina's Alakazam
Lt.Surge Deck w/ Rocket's Zapdos

I did not play competitively at this point, but those would be what I think are some of the archetypes at the time.

I suppose I have to ask, would I even be allowed to charge an entry free if all of the money went back into prizing?
Otherwise I'm not sure what I'd do for prizing or if people would be willing to just do it for fun.

Also is Thursday a good day for everyone interested? It seems like the day the most people will be around that doesn't conflict with Grinders or World's or the Top Cut Invitational.

Baby Rule. Must know how Baby Rule (NOT POWER!) works.

Also, Babies kill Ditto. No one ran Ditto once Baby Pokemon came along.

Alright so the proposed formats are as follows:

- Rocket to Neo Destiny Modified (Banned Sneasel) + Slowking Errata
- Base to Neo Destiny Unlimited + Slowking Errata

I am personally a fan of the modified idea, it gets rid of a lot of the overpowered trainers and banning Sneasel means it doesn't become overpowered once energy removal is gone.

Hmm, I'm not sure if Rocket to Destiny was ever a format.
Rocket to Revelation was a format for the STS.
This may be what I'll go with. I'm also being told that Slowking wasn't even that dominant during that format so errataing it may not be needed.

Remember that the online community was less well organized back then as well; it took longer for ideas to circulate.

I won't be there, but if you want an interesting older Modified format, try the full 2001-2002 allowance, Rocket On through The Legendary Collection. I seem to recall the way the releases went, all the major events in the US were done by the time the LC hit... or maybe my memory is just fuzzy.

The Modified format list I have says that Rocket-On Modified went into effect Sept 1, 2001. Neo Revelation was then released Sept 21, 2001. Neo Destiny was released Feb 28, 2002. Legendary Collection was released May 24, 2002. So, Rocket-Destiny was a format for any events from Feb 28 - May 23, 2002. Were there any major tournaments in that 3 month time?

Wasn't Slowking in Babyporter?

Slowking was banned at some point during Modified. I thought it was Rocket-On. So, it was dominant at some point to the extent that WotC saw fit to ban it. However, just because it wasn't dominant then doesn't mean it won't be dominant in your event. Consider how metagames change now and that we also have hindsight to play with.

Where: Open Gaming Room
When: Thursday (time TBD)
Format: Team Rocket to Neo Destiny; Slowking Errata and Sneasel Banned
Prizing: Still TBD (can I charge entry? That would fuel the prizing. Otherwise it'll be SUPER minimal)

I don't think I can afford the cards to make my own deck, as ironic as that is, so there's a good chance that I'll probably attempt to judge the event.

Popular decks during this format include:
Feraligatr (Riptide)
Typhlosion/Blaine's Arcanine
Crobat
Entei/Magcargo
Steelix
Donphan
Dark Feraligatr?

Ah... Riptide!

I remember playing that at the 2001 EC STS.
The attendees would play against one of us Staffers in challenge matches and if they won, they got a promo card (some of which were going for pretty good money at the time!).

Man, that was a fun deck to play.

Was Steelix paired with Neo Discovery Kabutos or did that not happen until Ne-On?

Wasn't Kingdracenter a deck? Pokemon Center was reprinted as a black star promo, right?

Ack! The Thursday time is bad for me, as I'll be spending the night testing. While I'm excited for the tournament, I will unfortunately be unable to play.

I'll admit I want to test as well, but are there really any other days that don't conflict with the event or don't conflict with prepping for the actual event?
I'm free to anyday that people are wanting to do this.

zzzz. I wish i was going to worlds this year. I would finally get to test the arcannine/entei deck i had for world that i never attended =(. Btw dark blastoise/steelix is pretty good too. I remember when i played jonathan brooks at both ecsts and wcsts against it.

If you flipped tails on your retreat check, the Pokemon that failed the confusion check could not attempt to retreat until the following turn.
