Best (and by best i mean cheapest) way to go from KOA airport to the Hilton

Simply put, what is the best way to travel to the hotel from the airport? I google mapped it and the Hilton Waikoloa Village is in fact a 30 minute drive away. Needless to say, I cant walk that.

A shared van ride is $25 EACH WAY meaning $50 just to get to a hotel. Are there other solutions? Anyone know how much a cab would cost? Is there some sort of Pokemon shuttle that Im not aware of? Any help to reduce this seemingly obscene cost is greatly appreciated

If you're going with a group, you may want to consider renting a car. Technically, it is more expensive than a shuttle, but you can also go "off the reservation" and have a wider selection of food.

If I recall, the cab ride for me in '10 was about 50-60 bucks one way. (My memory may be a bit fuzzy) Cabs are not cheap in Hawaii. Gas is not cheap in Hawaii. Food is not cheap in Hawaii.

One way to Kona was $25, to Waikoloa it was over $50. ( in 2010 from Airport)
We had to do both due to an overbooked plane.

There is no cheap way to get around there.
Last time we wanted to rent bikes and I could buy 2 bikes for the price of 4 rentals, insane.

So ya buy the bikes and sell them to the rental places. Problem solved ^_^

The cab ride for me was $55 from KOA to the hotel. I'd highly recommend stuffing as many people as you can in that cab. Ask around on the flight there and find some buddies. apparently the "speedishuttle" runs every so often... it probably won't be picking up that often. My family rented a van for us and friends. It wasn't worth it just for getting to and from the hotel, but we'll be trucking around the island, so it saved us money.

I dont like relying on shared shuttles when its a small-ish airport. Taxi seems worth it if theres 4 people. my friend should be arriving around the same time (August 8th, around 8pm) so hopefully theres 1-2 people that are also heading to the Hilton on the same flights

As you said there is a really small airport, so don't be surprised if you run into other people going to Hilton. I saw a bunch of people at the airport who were heading the same way as me 2010.
