My question is, what are the BEST Basic Pokemon cards for each type? This is a pretty random thread, but I thought I might get somewhere with it. Thanks!

Ralts becuase it turns into satan.

Really tho it depends on what your asking for. Like if you mean the best starter then pachiriusu(sp?) From GE is the best. But if you want the best attacker/evo into, Then I gusse it would be any pokemon.

Best starting Pokemon for each type.

    Top of the list -

Electric - Pachirisu - the BEST Pokemon out there.
Dark - Absol. Sableye CG was close.
    Colorless - Stantler
    Fire - Magmar - 20 for 1 is a lot of heat
Fighting - Riolu. Machop was close.
Psychic - Ralts? Maybe? Ascencion shuppet would win here too.
Metal - Ha HAHAHAHA, ok, Mawile.
Grass - Ha HAHAHAHA, OK, Celebi???
    Water - Corsola??

Best in what terms? Best in play, or best in playability?

Yeah, sorry, that was a bit vague. Well, let's put it like this; Best for deck construction or rather just for play. Cards that go well with each other or anything, but moreover, I want to know what cards are just good from the get go (thus the basic, not having to evolve). The best card(s) from each type in playability would make the most sense. I tend to play with mostly basic as a strategy in one of my decks, and wanted to broaden my scope a little bit. Thanks for the replies, keep them coming!

Electric: Oh my, so many options... Obviously Pachirisu (IS there anything else you'd want to start with? :/)
Dark: It's probably Absol at this point, because Disable is now blockable with Unown G. Sure, your opponent can draw cards back if they get Claydol out. Absol's no longer "Oh, my opponent doesn't have a hand, neener neener neener~~". Heck, it NEVER should be played like that. Absol's point is to remove tricks like Rare Candy and Scramble so your opponent can't use them later, and that purpose still exists.
Water: Lapras. 80 HP and Castaway for one water? I'm sold.
Colorless: I'd have to say Stantler here, actually. Sentret's frankly not all that great on it's own, while Stantler can get you any supporter (and thus anything rather quickly, unlike Sentret who's Pokedexing until you find a Furret), and can auto-confuse basics (like Absol and starters)
Fire: Um. There really isn't a whole lot impressive here. For pokemon who's attacks are most impressive while basic, I'd have to say Charmander. 2 Fire for 20 and spreading 10 to bench ON A BASIC isn't too bad. Heck, Charizard can make that 70 damage and 10 to bench (but you'll eat Memory Berrys at an insane rate). Entei wouldn't be too bad, except it can't do anything at all until it gets 3 energy *sigh*.
Fighting: Baltoy's pretty dang awesome. Psychic Balance for colorless energy? On a pokemon that evolves into permenent Birch? Sure, why not?
Psychic: Ascension Shuppet is one of the few old cards to be good, and for great reason; such early evolution into such a nice early game attacker is brilliant.
Metal: It'd have to be Skarmory. Discarding Energies isn't half bad, though it's energy cost is downright terrible. Please let DP5 come out with something to... You know, actually make metal types worthwhile :/ The Psychic Resistance is good on a starter though, as is it's mere 1 retreat cost.
Grass: ...*sigh*, the type that also has just about no good starter. Kricketot works great for it's own deck, but isn't for every grass deck. Caterpie is absolutely amazing (turn 1 stage 2 with 120 HP and 30 damage for 1 energy? Not to mention that attack HEALS, and the stage 2 has free retreat? OH SHI-) Not much more beyond that.

    Let's see...

Electric: Pachirisu, the best starter and tool destroyer out there.
    Dark: Absol, deadly hand disruption
Colorless: Stantler probably, free supporter searching is cool.
Fire: Probably Magmar, since Magmotar decks are so common and Magmar is needed obviously.
Fighting: Riolu, potentially donking your opponent T1 is increadibly fulfilling at times, and 30 for 1 is cool with Heads.
Psychic: Ralts, needed for G&G obviously.
Metal: Mawile I suppose, decent effects.
Grass: Celebi hands down, being able to gather Grass Energy onto itself for free, then distributing it with Leaf Hurricane is just an awesome way to power your Pokemon.
Water: I like Lapras here, having a Castaway effect for an attack will be looked at next season at least when Castaway disappears.

50 to the active, 20 to all your opponent's bench pokemon of the same type. This card was insanely sick when you faced Dragtrode or Metanite back in the day, not to mention the body is surprisingly useful.

Let's see what I can come up with for this. I'll stick with current modified cards, since I think that was the intention.

Electric: Rayquaza Ex d (DF). Just the fact that it's a playable Ex in this format says plenty.
Dark: I think I will go with Absol (SW) here as many did, it's just too disruptive to not like
Colorless: Holon's Castform (HP). Last season's best starter is still an really cool tech card.
Fire: Mew d (P5). Copying attacks can be very useful. Lost a lot of it's luster, but still useful.
Fighting: Baltoy (GE), possibly a lot of card drawing and a decent second attack that puts it on the bench to boot.
Psychic: Unown G (GE). Amazing utility when used as a tool, plus 2 for 50 is never bad on a basic.
Metal: Dialga (DP). Collect isn't bad, decent HP. 2nd attack can be very effective if used right.
Grass: Volbeat (GE)(with Illumise in play) slapping a supporter from your discard back on top of your deck is amazing.
Water: Luvdisc (CG) can search for basics, heal, or spread damage, how much more can you ask for?

Fire and Metal were pretty limited in choices, so I went for the most effective and/or versatile over damage.

Curse you for being helpful. Now I'll have a guilty conscience if I mock your inability to detect sarcasm. There goes my weekend.

    ^^

Also, would Furrett technically be considered a good starter even though he's a Stage 1? He's a great searcher, but starter....I dunno.
