BKP Suicune's Ability x BKP Sigilyph's Attack

The relating Text:
BKP Suicune's Ability(Wind Charm) reads "As long as this Pokémon is your Active Pokémon, prevent all effects of your opponent's attacks, except damage, done to each of your Pokémon. (Existing effects are not removed)"

BKP Sigilyph's Attack(Reflective Shield) reads "During your opponent's next turn, if this Pokémon is damaged by an attack (even if this Pokémon is Knocked Out), put 5 damage counters on the Attacking Pokémon."

So my question is:
Does Suicune's Ability prevent the damage counter placement from Sigilyph's attack(assuming Sigilyph did use it's attack last turn) when the Suicune attacks the Sigilyph?

This interaction unsurprisingly came up during a prerelease event I played at and I consulted with the TO and another Judge. We concluded that the 5 damage counters would be placed onto the Suicune, with our reasoning being that Sigilyph's attack only affected itself and that Suicune's attack was triggering a reaction effect. But I wanted to run this by on here, just to make sure we got it right.
