I saw the thread that says you cannot play this card if you have no open slots on your bench, which lead me to some additional questions:

Can I play this card searching for non-EX Pokemon if there are only one or two spots open on my bench?
- Am I forced to search for an EX if there is only one or two spots open on my bench?

Can I play this card searching for less than 3 non-EX pokemon even if there are 3 or more spots open on my bench?
- What happens if I search my deck and find that I only have 2 non-EX pokemon left (since I am searching my deck my opponent cannot verify its contents)?

Thank you.

Yes, you can play this card as long as you have at least one open spot on your bench.

Pokemon has a couple of meta rules that apply.

First is "do as much as you can".
So, if a Trainer tells you to do a number of things, but you can only do some of that, you still get to play it. As long as you can do something that the Trainer tells you to do, you can play it. An exception would be if the Trainer says "if you don't do X, then you can't do Y".

Second is "you can always fail a deck search for a specific type of card".
The deck is private knowledge and the Game doesn't know what specific cards you have in it. So if you are searching for a Pokemon and you don't want to find one, the deck has no idea if there was none to be found, or if you are just choosing not to fine one.
Note that if you are searching for cards in your discard pile, that is public knowledge and so you can't fail to find something that is known to be there.
