Charizard ex vs. multi energy

When you attack with burndown and it sasy to diascard 5 fire energy and you have a multi energy attached to charizard ex do you have to discard it because it says while in play it provides any type of energy but isn't your discard counted as not in play?

Yes, as long as there are no other Special Energy cards attached to the Charizard-EX, you would have to discard the Multi since it provides Fire Energy at the time of the attack.

Well, that is, unless you have five or more other Fire Energies attached onto it, then you could discard any five of those instead.
