The Rules Team is back from vacation. We hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday season! :thumb:
Nothing earth-shattering in these rulings, but the biggies would be:

  • Bringing Energy Recycle System into line with the new Pokemon Retriever ruling
  • Some clarifications on how Holon Energy WP will affect effects already in effect... It won't.

== ENERGY RECYCLE SYSTEM (EX:Dragon; EX: Unseen Forces)

Q. With Energy Recycle System, do you have to shuffle 3 energies in or can you do only 2? Or what happens if you only have 2 in your discard pile; can you shuffle the two in or not? The card doesn't say "up to" like some other cards do.
[A. Well, since it does not say "up to", it's either shuffle in exactly 3 Basic energies or you can put 1 Basic energy into your hand. But if there are less than 3 Basic energy cards in the discard pile, you would return all of them to your deck if you choose that option. (Jan 22, 2004 PUI Rules Team; Jan 5, 2006 PUI Rules Team)]

***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS BEEN MODIFIED; See Above *****
Q. With Energy Recycle System, do you have to shuffle 3 energies in or can you do only 2? Or what happens if you only have 2 in your discard pile; can you shuffle the two in or not? The card doesn't say "up to" like some other cards do.
A. Well, since it does not say "up to", it's either shuffle in exactly 3 Basic energies or you can put 1 Basic energy into your hand. If you only have 2 Basic energies in the discard pile, then 1 to your hand is the only option available. (Jan 22, 2004 PUI Rules Team)

== HOLON SCIENTIST (EX:Delta Species)

Q. Can you play Holon Scientist if your opponent has 5 cards and you also have 5 (after playing Holon Scientist and discarding a card for the cost of the trainer)? So you would discard a card and be able to draw none?
A. If you can discard a card from your hand you can play Holon Scientist, but unless you have less cards than your opponent you would not be able to draw any cards. (Jan 5, 2006 PUI Rules Team)

== HOLON TRANSCEIVER (EX:Delta Species)

Q. If you use Holon Transceiver, and there are no Holon supporters are in your deck when you look but there are some in your discard pile, can you take one from your discard pile?
A. With Holon Transceiver you choose the mode when you play the card. You can either do one or the other; if you choose to search your deck, you cannot go through the discard pile if it fails. (Jan 5, 2006 PUI Rules Team)

== RARE CANDY (EX:Sandstorm; EX:Emerald)

Q. Can I play Rare Candy on a Basic Pokemon to evolve it into a Stage 1 even though that Pokemon could evolve that turn normally?
A. Yes, this is possible. (Jan 5, 2006 PUI Rules Team)

----------------------------------------------------------------------
ENERGY CARDS
----------------------------------------------------------------------

== HOLON ENERGY FF/GL/WP (EX:Delta Species)

Q. Does Holon Energy WP prevent placing of counters from an opponent's attacks?
A. Yes. Since there is a difference between "placing counters" and "damage done", the effect of placing counters would indeed be prevented. (Jan 5, 2006 PUI Rules Team)

Q. What happens if you place Holon Energy WP on a Pokemon where an attack has already placed an effect (and a Water energy is also attached)?
A. Holon Energy WP prevents non-damaging effects of an attack, but only when Holon Energy WP (and the Water Energy) are already attached. It does not remove the pre-existing condition. (Jan 5, 2006 PUI Rules Team)
