I've brought it here to hopefully get more attention and have people double check things.

This is a list I've thrown together of every card I think is unobtainable from each set. I will do some research and update each card on whether it may come from a theme deck or not. This list is to help clean up the collection database of unobtainable cards and help users catch em all. Currently, these cards account for ~2.76% of overall completion.

If you think you have any of these cards please make a post and we can get it verified and taken off the list. Thanks!

Filters: These cards are sorted by "Set, Card Number", Set view to "Tile", and make sure you check the show all box.

The only reason I listed promo's is because I can't begin to imagine we will ever be offered 2 versions of the same promo and the problem with multiple copies needs to be addressed since it hurts the statistics on collecting. I know there are plans/ideas for the promo's and how to release them to us, but lets face it, most of these are extremely old and probably wont be released anytime soon. I know I have suggested this in other threads but it just makes sense to only tally up our total collection based on taking these cards out of the equation until they are released. Obviously the database needs to be scrubbed a bit of most of these cards that just don't belong and it is strictly the purpose of this thread to bring these cards to attention. In all reality, a simple fix would be to not count said cards towards completion stats. When a promo or league card becomes available just add a 1 to the total cards in the equation. Easy Peasy.

This is great! I know this can be problematic during trading too, if you are seeking a version of an unobtainable card.
 
^^ Just curious why you say "never" obtainable. Because they aren't appearing in the program?

I'd like to get my hands on some virtual Promo BW06 Snivy cards. They are in the program, but I've never seen a code card to redeem them. So how would that be obtainable?
 
I think a lot of these promos will be obtainable by participating in tournaments, special bundles of some sort when purchasing packs (Luxio/Riolou promo), extras when purchasing gems, or something along those lines. I'm very doubtful they will release special code cards for them.
 
Right. So considering these Snivy/Oshawott/Tepig early BW-series promos were released in Spring 2011, I don't believe there's going to be any way to unlock them on PTCGO. (They are still in stores though, most recently packaged in a $4.99 blister which also has a 10-card booster pack and a 3-card pack.)

There are some non promo cards in the database that are duplicate errors that were added after V2 released and there are some HGSS cards that since day 1 have never been obtainable. I have put in far too many hours than I am proud to admit trading on the site and I have never seen any of these older cards. I have even jokingly offered 20x value for them on occasion but found that to be a waste of time. Even all of the other top collectors that I have spoke to about these cards agree that they have never seen these cards obtainable. I am 99.9% certain that these cards simply do not exist online. The .1% is due to my line at the top asking people if they do have them to post and we will verify it, but it's not gonna happen.

I'd like to have that Snivy as well. A lot of the codeless promo's have been released in shop bundles on TCGO. I assume that will be the trend for the future as well as offering them for buying Gems or playing in/winning online tournaments. I hope this is the case because i'd like to get them all eventually.

Nothing all though i have a sneaky suspicion it will be given away in prestigious online tournaments. Maybe only once a year or bi annually. It should be as hard to get online as in real life. I would offer 200 packs for it atm.
 
Can you post a little more information here? I know people have Altairia, Garchomp, and Hydreigon from Dragons Exalted. Why are they listed here as "Unobtainable"?

I too have Altaria, Garchomp, and Hydreigon. There are a ton of people that do. There are multiple versions of each card as there are in real life be it holo or non holo and some are not obtainable online. Some have 3-4 versions when they should only have 2-3. I've listed in great detail at the top of the page a way to check which versions I am talking about if you would like to see what they are.
 
Great list, GravyBeast! We're aware of some funkiness that exists with collection completion percentages and unobtainable cards. Seeing a compiled list like this makes for a great conversation starter with the development team.
