OK, we've all seen the hype, T&T pre-orders are up to $25 after 3 days, etc. I don't see it. Can somebody PLEASE explain to me how this card is good whatsoever?

T&T pre-orders are up because of the hype. The hype is free retreat for any Pokemon with a Dark Energy attached. It's attack is a 2HKO on any EX that doesn't have Eviolite/Defender/some method of healing. It resists Mewtwo-EX, so it won't be revenge killed by it (Terrakion, however, is another story). With all of the dark support coming in Dark Explorers, dark decks will probably see a lot of play for the first few weeks and a couple decks will stay in the meta. A combination of Dark Patch and Darkness Claw mean that Darkrai is a possible T1 110 (120 if the energy for the turn was a Special Dark), plus enough damage to the bench to knock out a 30 HP Tynamo in a Zekeels match.

card is absolutely terrible. Maybe it'll see play as a tech but completely hype.

Darkrai EX is not a terrible card. I'm testing it with Tyranitar and it's worked well.

    Here's the deal.

    Everybody stop hyping cards.

Everybody stop panic buying EXs in advance on T&T.

Then maybe we'll get stuff at a decent price when it is actually released.

giving any pokemon free retreat could make for some unpredictable plays. esp with shaymin unleashed

Maybe. But is free retest worth being Catcher KO'd by a Terrakion for two prizes? Also, T-tar is all but negated by eviolite. (Though I did almost play it for states.

    I don't see it?

We saw hype in Mewtwo ex, we predicted, and we tested. We figured out how good it was by testing, so we will figure out how good Darkrai ex is when we test it.

Telling people not to hype is like telling people not to get excited for a new game. It ain't going to happen. Once stuff leaks people can't, and won't stop talking about it. Hype is just a by-product of it.

You do realize not all decks play Terrakion right, especially if we see rotation. It can get catcher kill'd by Terrakion? So what so can Zekrom EX, and it still sees plenty of play. The free retreat is useful for a lot of decks, and that includes Terrakion's retreat problem.

lightning decks have better alternate attackers like thundurus and zekrom and can recover better than darkness decks because of eelektriks. Lightning decks doesnt need zekrom ex on the bench because of eels and if i expect a terrakion i wont play zekrom ex unless i have to or the trade is good for me.
Darkness decks dont have good basic attacker yet and darkrai ex has to be on bench to be useful.

However i dont like the "terrakion theorymon" argument. Basically every card is bad if terrakion can revenge ko it.

I compared Darkrai EX to Zekrom EX only due to the obvious HP amount, though I do see what you're saying. However Darkrai isn't limited to dark decks since and can be splashable, though results will vary. (As for Eels recovering easier, don't forget Dark Patch is coming out with Darkrai so Darkness will improve in that respect)

I do agree that the Terrakion fear is...over the top. Terrakion takes two turns to set-up, and even then can be minimalized if you play well, but that's off topic.

Not to mention some decks (like Zoroark) don't even care about being return KO'd by a Terrakion.

We all need to remember that, despite Terrakion existing, Zekrom/Eelektrik is still one of the 2 BDIFs. I have a feeling Dark Pokemon, Darkrai EX included, will be just fine. And if Japan's meta was any indicator, Dark decks did fantastically.

Fair enough, we'll just have to see how he fits into the meta...

Japans meta also indicated that Lostgar, Tyranitar, and Reshi_________ w/ Cobalion would be good here. I personally don't take Japans Meta into account, it's much different than ours. Aside from that, Dark Pokemon should do fine.

That's a shame because it also indicated that Zekrom/Eels, Chandelure, Celebi/Mewtwo, 6 Corners, and C/K/E would be good too.

You'd be a fool to just blindly accept that everything that's good in Japan would work elsewhere, but you would be just as big a fool to ignore it completely.

What I should have said was that I don't take it completelly into account. The decks that come out of Japan are either hit or miss so I would rather wait and see how the decks do here than accept them as being good automaticly.

Darkrai is mostley good in dark decks and its good in the truth. But its could get better when it becomes bw on.

Honestly, the only reason this thing is at 25 is because it's called Darkrai.

It's not a bad card, but seeing as it has a silver bullet put in its head by Terrakion, I won't be playing it.

The card can kill an Eel and a Tynamo at the same time. It should have some potential just because of that.
