"does not count as a basic energy card"

This is probably a stupid question, but my brother and I aren't sure about something. Some energy cards (like the special metal energy card I have) say "Doesn't count as a basic Energy card." Only, it doesn't say specifically what that really means.

Question 1: Does that mean that after playing your energy card that is NOT a basic energy card you can play another energy card that IS a basic energy card?

Question 2: Does that mean you cannot use your non-basic energy card to retreat?

Thanks,

1. No. If you check the wording of the rule book, you are limited to playing one energy card per turn. It says nothing about what kind of energy card.

2. No. There is no rule about that either.
What it means, is that there are some card effects that only work with Basic energy cards. When an effect states "basic energy" or "basic [type] energy", then a special one won't do.
