Has the discussion calmed down about the new format which was announced by Amigo-spiele.de??? It is quite different than has been used previously (as far as I know) for Premiere Pokemon TCG events...

I hope some Czech players can make it.

But I dont like that format. Lose in any of the first 3 "rounds" means gg. One bad hand and you are out. I dont think thats what we need, but w/e, things like formats wont stop me from coming.

Yes it is different, and I think it's a bad timing to test such a modus.

Personally I don't like the system they are going to work with.
It will give the young ones a hard time to get themselves into the main tournament.
There was nothing mentioned about splitting the KO rounds up in agegroups, so each 8 players in a row will have to compete.
There is a large 15+ division in Germany.
I only hope it will not end up in a mess. Hard time to judge/oversee such modus.
Because if 64 players show up (which can easily) you will start with 8 flights, after 30 minutes (or more no time limit) you start up 4 again or meaby more depending on new arrivals.

It doesn't say how many players total are going to be in the Main tournament.
This modus can work absolutely but why a try out at Nationals.
At the German MB you can find divers opinions, but I don't understand everything said there.

I read the German MB (I speak/read/write), and at first there were many voiced opposed to the new 'modus' - I will hope they are running age-seperated flights (the only fair way).

I agree it would have been better to try out the new method in a lower-level event than nationals...

Depending on attendance I can only hope they will at least separate the younger ones from the older ones.
Could be done easily by wearing badges or scorepapers in a specific color for each agegroup.

Also depending on total attendance there are a lot of side-workers needed.
If they really want to start flights each 30 minutes.

It's new, it can be done, but it needs probably some improvisation during the day.
If it wasn't for my suspension I would offer help as judge or whatever, but I'm not allowed.
It's a challenge which I wouldn't denie, but it needs good communication.

My experience with flight tells me the little ones will like this system as long as they are playing in their own age division. I did this many times at my club with 32 players of 10 and under and they liked it.
For the 15+ I don't know if they like it. We almost don't have those.

FWIW that system was used at the UK STS at Thorpe Park many many years ago. Yes its different but its not worse nor is it better. Just different. it works best with a large number of players.

OOPS correction. Flights were used at Thorpe park as qualifiers for a main swiss event. I wonder how the seeding will be decided for the TOPX playoffs if flights are used?

The flights system does have one big advantage... NO TMS crashes or strange pairings after 4 rounds to contend with. I wonder how many distributors are still using Reporter?

on the op site in the tournament locator, it says there are three tournaments, one for up to 10 y.
one for 15+ y. and one for 11-14 y.
so i think you'll only play against your own age group

Well, they are having the main event as best-of-3 matches - the controversy is regarding the preliminary 'qualification' tournaments (not rounds) which take 8 players in a single-elimination mini-tournament, and the winner thereof is qualified to participate in the main event for his/her age group:

okey thanks for the translation
i didnt understand anything, but now i understand it, its not bad, i think this is better, because you have much times to start over when you lose so more chance to win

This system was only made that way because the Natioanls are part of the special event "10 years TCG with Amigo-Spiele" with demo rounds for all their TCG´s, mini-leagues with prizes, side events and so on and so forth and that system leaves everyone the chance to participate in the many, many activities they will have there. For "normal" Nationals this system would never ever be considered.

@Agegroups: Registrations will be collected over a certain time span and all registrations will be distributed randomly to the flights after they have been sorted by age groups.
Example: Preregistrations are:
12 10-
24 11-14
28 15+
Then you´ll have:
One flight 10-
One flight 10-/11-14
Two flights 11-14
One flight 11-14/15+
Three flights 15+

In the final playoffs the age groups will be totally seperated.

That sounds good.

@ I don't know if you have thought about it, but registering manual and using colored sheets per agegroup will prevent a lot of problems.

German Nationals are over.

Those judges had to run/work very very hard.
I hope they got more than 10 boosters which is the compensation for judges at the Dutch Nationals, those German Judges deserved much more.

OVerall, due to the hard work of the judges almost everyone could play 2-3 flights.
Personal I find that not enough, but they couldn't get more done, not enough people/judge to do so.
Tournament was listed 10a.m - 13 a.m. , but the doors opened at 10a.m. and before the first flights started it was around 11 a.m. So only 2 hours and that's not much.

I have the impression that the judges were not happy at all with this system, but that they didn't had a vote in it.
I think they got overruled by the LD.

Don't understand me wrong, I'm only talking about the system used at this Nationals.

Yes, it was fun to do one time but i dont think it's good to do it again
and i won first place!!!!!!!!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

There was a problem with the personell: The crew should be 5 judges, 2 helpers and the representative of Amigo. One judge got ill and the two helpers never showed up. You can guess what this means...

The problem with the system was: We had never a chance to interfere with it because at the timepoint we got that information the advertisement was out and running. And you cannot advertise a flight system and then say: Oh sorry, you are too late for the swiss tournament.

There all some more things I´m not very happy with for which this is the false place to discuss...

We know that's why I stated
Those judges had to run/work very very hard.

And it shows again that Communication is very difficult, most of all from LD to "field workers".

If you wanna see more pictures I took at the German Nationals go to Pokemon League Zweibruecken ! There you´ll find some pics of the winners and the event in general!
It was a very nice event but sometimes kinda chaotic but the judges did their best ! ;-)
Back to the personell problem:
I received a mail from Amigo about one week before the event took place! At that time I already decided to play (I built a deck, did test games etc.)! If the mail arrived about 2 or 3 weeks earlier I would have helped!
If they want more helpers and/or judges they should mail you earlier so you can decide wether you play or judge/help!
