So, again, like normal I have no clue what I'm playing until the morning before. I end up choosing Gothitelle.
We get to the venue, register, and then wait for rosters (and then pairings) to go up.
We have 75 Seniors for 7 Rounds/Top 16
A quick note of apology, I played so many games against Reshi/Zek it was insane-and my memory against them kinda blended together.
But first, the Tropical Beach Count in Gothitelle dilemma...
I played one, and only one, and I found it to be the perfect number.
Round 1 vs Luke M. w/ Reshiphlosion
Started off fairly normally except that he seemed to be building Typhlosions up more than the Reshirams. I soon got Goth/Clus and never looked back, sweeping him from there.
1/0
Basically all except two of the Michigan Junior/Seniors were 1/0. My whole family was 1/0 also.
Round 2 vs Devin R. w/ Reshiphlosion
He has active Reshiram to my lone Shaymin. He goes first-
His 1st Turn-Attach
My 1st Turn-Attach (No supporters)
His 2nd Turn-Attach, Pluspower, Junkarm for the Pluspower-Outrage Game
1/1
1/1 seemed to be the theme around the Michigan players. Ben was 2-0 with Donphan and Dragons, my mom was 2-0 with a rogue of mine (Not going to take the time to explain that one), and Andy and Josh were both 0-2.
Round 3 vs. Keegan I. w/ Cubone/Donphan/Cinccino
Nothing in his deck can KO me. Get setup=win.
And while it did take awhile (very boring game) I did eventually setup. He couldn't do anything, and I swept for 6.
2/1
Michigan was all over the board at this point. My brother, Mom, and I were all 2-1; Andy and Josh were 1-2; Ben was 3-0 (Yes, with D&D); everybody else was 2-1/1-2,
Round 4 vs. Will K w/ Zoroark/Yanmega
He draws a few prizes with Yanmega. At one point I use Twins+Communication+3 Rare Candies to setup 2 Goths and 1 Reuniclus in one turn. The Goth had 3 energy, and from there I swept for 6.
3/1
Andy now at 2-2, everybody else except Matthew was in that area, except for Ben who is at 4-0 with Donphan and Dragons!!!
Round 5 vs. James S w/ Reshiphlosion
Did not want to play another Michigan player quite this early... Round 7 would've been better....
Regardless, I still pulled this one out. Once I got the setup, I got setup quickly and never looked back.
4/1
Andy-3/2 (Oh, this is ZPST)
Ben-5/0 with Donphan and Dragons
Round 6 vs. Seth H. w/ Reshiphlosion
This basically turned out like all my other Reshiram games... I just setup, and swept from there.
5/1
Ben is now the only undefeated at 6/0 with Donphan and Dragons...
Andy is 4/2, coming back from 0-2 start
Round 7 vs. Andrew Estrada w/ Reshiphlosion+Kingdra
This one isn't like all my others...
So, he gets a great start to my fairly bad one. He almost donked my lone Shaymin. He Pluspowered, Junkarmed for it again, Junipered and missed the energy he needed (Got the Junk Arm needed) to get the donk. I've got collector at that point and realized I prized two Solosis. I just now see he has a Horsea and know I'm in deep trouble. With some very important cards prizes, I don't get much of anything setup. However, he Junipered or Saged once a turn for 5 turns straight, setting himself up with 2 cards in deck vs 4 prize cards, and him not running any hand refresh. He ends up decking out, and I won a game that shouldn't have been mine.
6/1
Andy is 5/2, comes back from 0/2 to make the cut. Ben lost the last round making us have no undefeated. Standings at the end of swiss-
(Michigan Players in bold, deck next to names if I knew them)
1. Ben G. w/ Donphan and Dragons (6/1)
2. Ty W. w/ The Truth (6/1)
3. Kaitlyn Y. w/ Stage 1 Rush
4. Christopher S. w/ Gothitelle
5. Henry P. w/ Yanmega/Magnezone
6. Daniel M. w/ ???
7. Devin R. w/ Reshiphlosion
8. Justin L. w/ Tyram+Kingdra
9. Adler P. w/ Gothitelle
10. Stephen P. w/ ???
11. Harrison D. w/ Zekrom/Yanmega/Lanturn
12. Che E. w/ ???
13. Austin H. w/ ZPST
14. Alec Z. w/ ???
15. Andy R. w/ ZPST
16. Andrew E. w/ Reshiphlosion+Kingdra
Top 16 vs. Austin H. w/ ZPST
Game 1
Open lone Magnemite (the only one I run) and get donked
6/1, 0/1
Game 2
Open lone magnemite (again, only one I run) and get donked
6/2, 0/2
No, no kidding there... Opened with supporter-less hands both games. I've never been out of top cut so fast ever...
All of us Michigan players lost in Top 16 to leave the Top Cut to the Ohioans-again.
I ended up losing to the eventual winner, so thats some consolation. Still doesn't mean I'll ever play Magnemite again.
Thanks to Derick for the event and the judges for being fantastic.
Heard you all were up late finishing finals-Congrats to Austin for winning it all.
