I used to be a Professor, and was heavily involved in the game, along with my Son Spencer, who nearly made it to World's twice in a row, before he left the game
Fast forward many years till now (Spencer's in grad school at BU for Neuroscience studies) and I recently left the work force and cashed everything in (I thought) and set off on my motorcycle for the tip of South America and return.
Longish story short, I became very ill in Southern Mexico and spent three weeks in a hospital in Salina Cruz in Oaxaca state.
Upon release, and still weak, I headed back to the US. Started feeling myself again, and returned to Ohio after a five month journey (three months in Mexico)
I lost a lot of $$ due to the hospital stay and treatments.
Now, after being home and now feeling well and wanting to be BACK on the road, I needed a way to come up with around 10 grand towards the year-long trip it'll be.
And to the point of this story. Looked in my closet back at home and lo and behold that giant duffel bag filled with binder after binder of Pokemon cards and boxes of unused promo cards.
Let's just say the last two weeks have been a blur of Ebay and other online activity selling bits and pieces of the collection. I'm sure Pokemon GO had something to do with renewed interest in the (mostly) older sets we had.
I'm already near $6000 sold, and have lots more to go, although the more rare stuff is gone now.
I LOVE Pokemon!
And...am having a company make a set of decals for the sides of my motorcycle that say "Powered by Pokemon", as I feel it's only fitting.
Anyways, good to see the 'Gym's still kicking.
I looked a bit and I see a few names I recall. Good times. Good times.
