Horror House GX vs. Abilities

While under the effect of Gengar & Mimikyu GX's Horror House GX (or Alolan Golem GX's Heavy Rock GX), can a player use Ditto ♦'s Almighty Evolution or Meganium LOT's Quick-Ripening Herb to evolve, since the card is coming out of the hand due to an Ability being used? I believe Zoroark GX's Trade can still be used, so the hand isn't completed locked off from having cards leave it.

The now-banned Archeops NVI's Ancient Power prohibited use of Rare Candy's effect to evolve, which makes me think the evolution abilities would be blocked by Horror House. (Clearly "play" does not exclusively mean the standard method of playing an evolution card in that case!)

They would be blocked since you are playing the card from the hand.
You are still able to discard cards from your hand (via an Ability)
You are still able to reveal cards from your hand (Trumbeak)
You "just" can't do anything that would take a card from your hand and place it onto the playing field.
