Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Houston, Texas Pokemon TCG & VGC Regional Championships - April 14 & 15, 2012

Good news boys and girls, I saw the cash concession menu and pricing the hotel is providing for us and we're VERY happy with it.

So, we have for you:

Cash concessions starting at 7:30 am in the atrium of the hotel.
Pasta Bar in atrium from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Starbucks will be open in the lobby all day.
15 restaurants or fast food places with in 2 blocks of the hotel

Something for everyone.

The hotel won't allow any outside food to be brought in. You may take it to your room but that's it. At the same time, they won't be policing this.

We won't allow any food or drinks in the tournament ballrooms which will be A&B and we will be policing this, lol.

Ballrooms C&D will be open for food and drink. C&D is where you can hang out after the rounds, along with out in the lobby and atrium. Plenty of room for the players to relax after playing their games.

Vendors will be in C&D. Vendors should be open by 8:30ish on Saturday. No vendors on Friday. One vendor, maybe two on Sunday.

let me be the first to ask this question...

When's lunch break?

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Stayed at this hotel last year through priceline. It was a great bargain at 52 a night and only about 9 rooms booked in all. But this year you can't stay there with priceline. So if the hotel gets booked you can get the Marriott down the road on priceline for about 55 plus tax. Nice hotel but if you want to be where the action is stay at the Hilton but you better book it quick.

Just a FYI:

Houston weather for the weekend - High 60's, low 70's in the morning / mid 80's in the afternoon, a little cloudy but beautiful weather.

This is NOT an excuse to miss Regionals, it's even nicer inside the hotel, lol.

See y'all this weekend.

I know Mike mentioned cash concessions a few posts up but I thought I would add to it.

Menu for Lunch Cash Concessions;

Smoked Turkey Sandwich and salad - 7.00
Grilled Chicken Sandwich and salad - 7.00
Ham & Cheese Sandwich and salad - 7.00
Pizza of your choice (personal pan) - 7.00
Chicken Tenders and potato chips - 7.00
Cookie or Brownie - 1.00
Assorted chips - 1.00
Water & Soda - 1.00

There will also be a breakfast cash concessions but I don't have the list for that. This opens up at 7:30 am.

Cash Concessions / Pasta Bar / Starbucks - ALL located right outside our ballroom.

You will never have to leave the atrium / lobby area to get food unless you want to eat at an outside restaurant.

Regarding the stage 2 tournament:

Are stage 2 pokemon the only pokemon that are allowed in the deck? Also, are stage 2 pokemon considered basic pokemon and ruled as such?

Yes and yes.

By the way, over 150 rooms booked in the Pokemon block.

Here's what I'm hoping to see on Saturday.

Registration 8:00 - 10:00 am / must be in line by 9:30 am to secure your spot in round 1.

Rosters up by 10:10 am / Seated roster, look to the left of your name, that's the table #, go have a seat. We'll be hunting for empty seats afterwards.

During roster seating - I'll make my short announcements / our head judge will make a few more announcements / introduction of all judges with fanfare of course, lol. Pairings will go up during this process so we can pair all players after the introductions.

Expect about 45 to 50 minutes for each round (the 30+3, getting all slips in, parings, etc.) maybe a little longer for Masters depending on the attendance of course. Please work with us and be patient.
Each division will have it's own computer to make it run easy.

Round 1 - somewhere around 10:30-10:40ish, hopefully earlier.
Round 2 - 11:30ish - go to lunch after you're done playing.
Lunch break after round 2. Hopefully we can get started again at 1:30 pm or earlier. Exact times will be announced prior to round 2.
Round 3 (we will not start divisions together after this. If Juniors & Seniors finish their round before Masters, then we keep them going, we won't make divisions wait on each other UNLESS it's only 5 minutes or so, then we'll pair together.
Remaining rounds.
Dinner break for top cut players.
All top cut rounds, knocking it down to top 8
Top 8 for ALL divisions will be Sunday morning. We will deck you before you leave for the night and deck check you again on Sunday morning. All top 8 needs to be in the ballroom by 8:15 am.

I am hoping someone can answer a question I have. Can I use cards that have "Pokemon World Championships 2011" on the background of the card? Even though they stand out from the rest of my deck, I'm still going to use black sleeves to cover the back of the card. Thanks for any help with this regard.

World Championship cards are never legal in tournaments.
