Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Houston, Texas Pokemon TCG & VGC Regional Championships - April 14 & 15, 2012

I wanna say thanks to the Cooks for having me down and all the players and my fellow staff for making me feel so welcome.

You guys were great.

Special thanks to my Senior Judges and runners. You guys did a great job running an incredibly smooth event.

Thanks!!!

Great job Mike and Mia and the rest of the crew. Great venue and staff and everything ran smooth as silk. It lived up to the hype of a mini-Nats. As an aside, did anyone do a Regional attendance thread (didn't see one)?

Great tournament and an awesome top cut! Thanks Mike + all the other judges (Joe Jose EJ Kyle others I have not met or am leaving out, I have a bad memory)! Glad to meet a lot more of you too.

Now if only Lilligant could have won.

Great event, only complaint was that we played 2 Top Cut rounds after Swiss, I know I was exhausted in my Top 16 match, overall I had a great time and hopefully I can go back next season!

AMAZING weekend!! Thanks to Mike and Mia for another awesome event. They just keep getting bigger and better!! Thanks to all the judges - especially Amy and Joe who worked with me in Juniors. BIG shout out to all the juniors (and their parents!!) - y'all were fabulous and FUN!!! Everyone on staff was great - you made the event run so smooth. I really, really appreciate each person who helped out in some way. It truly was a team effort.

Can't wait to do it again next year!!!

First things first…a huge shout out to Mike and Mia Cook who really go all out to put on a great event. I’ve participated in several of their Regional events, and they just keep getting better. The venue was great, the event was silky smooth & just Texas-sized fun! No one throws a Pokémon party like Mike and Mia!

Next, a high five to all the TCG judges—especially lead judges Heidi Craig, Wayne Cunningham, and Christine Noah. We also really appreciate everyone who came in from out of town to help judge. Oklahoma, Colorado, Florida, and all corners of Texas were represented. I don’t want to forget the guys on the computers and the runners and everyone else who worked to support the event. You guys rocked, and it was an honor to work with you.

On the VGC side, Emmanuel Enriquez did a great job with the first ever VGC Regionals in South Texas.

And finally thanks to the most important people in the event who make the whole thing possible: the players. This was probably the most well-behaved, professional, skilled group of players I’ve had the privilege to work for. It was really awesome to see friends we don’t usually get to see until Nats (Vergel & Co.) and meet some of the other players that traveled to Texas!

I look forward to seeing you all at Nats.

Jeff Harris

It's always great to see friends that you haven't seen in a while. (and some you seem to can't stop seeing on a regular basis)

Thanks to Mike and Mia Cook for hosting an awesome event. Thanks to the judges that work hard on every event. I know how much it can take a toll on you and I really appreciate it.

Congrats to those who won their groups in their respective tournaments.

And a special congrats to Matt and Charlotte. Who know a rare candy could level up a relationship.

Masters:

1st Place - Zeels (piloted by my sad, pathetic excuse for a son D:)

Seniors:

1st place - Meesiemew (piloted by Smiley)

Wow! We survived another big Regionals weekend!... Of course, there was never any doubt in our minds...

In fact, it was a fantastic, first class event. Even the hotel was impressed, and I'm sure that they've seen lots of great events at their venue.

We saw lots of familiar smiling faces, and some anxious new ones as well. Kids, parents, and everyone in between -- Everyone had a great time!

With 429 players in TCG and 270 players in VGC, the Hilton Houston North was rockin'. The Pokemon Party started Friday night and went on non-stop until we left the hotel at 11 am Monday morning!.... ... Okay, so we weren't rockin on Monday morning. By then, we were running on fumes, but it sure felt great!

Thanks to EVERYONE!

A HUGE thank you to the following people:

PLAYERS and PARENTS. You made it fun! You made it easy! You are THE most important part of our events. Our success relies on YOU. Thank YOU!

TEAM OF JUDGES (TCG and VGC). We definitely couldn't have done this without you. Some of you traveled for this event, others are local judges... But each one of you played a vital role in the success of this event, and we truly appreciate it. We appreciate YOU and your commitment to us and our events.

Special shout out to:

Head Judge Jeff... always there for us... ready... willing... able... with a smile on his face! Jeff is the greatest!

Lead Judges Heidi, Wayne and Christine... traveled many, many, many miles to help us out... All are returning judges who have helped us at past Regionals!

TPCi. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for the event! We thank you, our players thank you. Without YOU.... we would be :frown:.

Pete De Shaw. Thanks for all your help. We were happy to have you! You were super approachable and available, and lots of players and staff were thrilled to meet you. Thank you for being a gracious celebrity!

Thank you - Part Deux

Thank you to all our Regionals Staff: The set-up and break-down crew, the computer guys, the gals at the Player ID and new player stations, the gals doing the Pokeball Grab and other games/activities/giveaways, the event assistants, runners, and the VGC crew!

On the VGC side, Emmanuel Enriquez did a great job with the first ever VGC Regionals in South Texas.

Yes, our VGC crew did an excellent job. Props to Emmanuel, Scott Tatum, Mark House and the VGC registration gang! You guys rock! Thanks to each and every one of you!

A special shout out to Scott, who made himself available at a drop of the hat in the month leading up to Regionals. Scott allowed us to pick his brain, and shared his VGC expertise with Mike and assisted in answering tons of VGC questions we were receiving by phone, email and private messages. He also looked over, edited, and assisted with the technical details we posted. Thank you Scott for being so generous with your time.

A big big big BIGGGGGG thanks from the random Ohio kid!

I didn't end up finishing the entire tournament as I had bad luck, but I have NEVER EVER had so much fun, nor seen such a well run tournament. I had an amazing time. The judges were impressive and personable. Registration was beyond smooth. The venue fit everything so well.

My only complaint? The fun had to stop D:

On top of it being a pokemon weekend it ended up being a VERY very important weekend for me personally as it's quite interesting what kind of self discovery can be brought on when you travel so far. Needless to say a pokemon tournament in texas may have been the deciding factor on moving there

We're so glad you had a great time! We thought about you during the event, and wondered if you'd come up to introduce yourself...

Thanks Brandon for the info and we're glad you had a good time. Congratulations on winning Seniors.

Changes made on original post.

Thanks for a great weekend. I am happy to have had the opportunity to play and even though feeling horrible was able to get to my room after each round helped tremendously. Now ready for a set that has be my favorite type since I started the TCG.
