Pooka
Master Trainer
Well, I had to make a decision whether to play Kabutops ex or Sceptile ex. Here's what I decided on...
Pokémon 17
3 Buried Fossil
4 Kabuto (3 SS, 1 SK)
3 Kabutops ex
1 Kabutops (SK)
2 Dunsparce
2 Skitty
2 Delcatty
Trainers 23
4 TV Reporter
4 POR
3 Oracle
3 Potion
2 Copycat
2 Crystal Shard
2 Warp Point
1 Town Volunteers
1 Strength Charm (This would cause a little controversy later...)
1 Mysterious Fossil
Energy 20
14 Fighting
4 Boost
2 Warp
It's basically just to counter Blaziken and all the variants. It has problems with Gardevoir, Ampharos, and pretty much anything Grass, but it beats other Water decks and Blaze. I was getting a little skeptical though, since it looked like nobody was playing Blaziken... The big decks were Gardevoir and Water.
Round One - Gardevoir/ex (David Coleman II)
This was kind of an odd match. I barely remember how it even went. ;x All I remember is my Kabutops ex got KO'd by Gardevoir ex, then I sent up Kabutops (SK) and did 50. After he KO'd that, I needed 1/1 heads to KO it with Kabutops ex. Tails. Next turn I had another shot, this time with 2 flips. Both tails. =\ It was basically downhill from there.
0-1
Round Two - Mewtwo ex with Fossils (Shdwchu)
Well, my starting Pokémon was... Skitty. He went first, which basically was game for me. He used Juggler, then Energy Absorption. I think I got another basic, but it didn't matter. He KO'd anything before I could get an evolution out. Ugh.
0-2
Well, starting 0-2 I figured the only way I could make Top 8 would be to win the last 4 rounds. Even then it would be close. Here we go...
Round Three - Team Magma deck
Again, TERRIBLE start. I had a Buried Fossil. He went first, attached an energy to TM Aron and did 10. I used Copycat for 3, hoping for a Basic. None. I attach an energy and pass. Basically all he has to do is attach another energy to Aron and KO me. He..... attaches to his benched Baltoy? I couldn't believe it. Neither could he. Next turn, I evolved to Kabuto and used Team Assembly. From there, I got Kabutops ex out and starting rolling. I took down everything he had.
1-2
Round Four - Blaziken/Rayquaza
Finally, a deck I can win against. I got a pretty good start, turn 2 Kabuto and fill my bench with Kabuto and Skitty. I got Kabutops ex out pretty quickly, and took over the game. I Sharded a Rayquaza, and that basically won the game...
2-2
Round Five - Gardevoir/ex
Ugh, the deck I hate to play. I start with a Skitty and go first. I hate starting with Skitty, but this time it was ok. I TV Reporter, get some junk, and do 10 to Ralts. His lone Ralts btw. He attaches, does 10 to Skitty. I evolve to Delcatty and Boost. KO. =/
3-2
Round Six - Sceptile/Dustox
Ok, I _have_ to win this match to make Top 8. After some table mix up, I got paired with the right person. Sceptile. Grass. Water Resistance. -_- Anyway, he starts with a Wurmple and tries to Poison my Buried Fossil... but you can't Poison a Buried Fossil. ;x I get set up pretty quick, make a mistake by not noticing his Low Pressure System, which gives his Grass Pokémon +10 HP. Should've used Strenghth Charm, but didn't realize it. Oh well. He evolves to Dustox, uses Toxic on my Kabutops ex. I KO it, and he sends up Treecko. Rare Candy, evolves to Sceptile. It has one energy on it. My turn, attach a Warp to Kabutops and send up Dunsparce. He uses Boost and Tail Rap. Saw it coming. I send up Kabutops ex and Hydrocutter for 50. He attaches and passes. I play Crystal Shard, ko.
4-2
Ok, right now I'm feeling pretty good about winning 4 in a row. Hopefully I can make T8 after all of this... The pairings are up... I'm.... 8th! Barely made it.
So they do the regular deck checks. Turns out I forgot to list my Strength Charm on the deck list. -_- So, I have to replace it with a basic energy and take a loss. However, it's best 2/3. I just need to win both games...
First match - BAR (David Coleman III)
Game one: I get a decent setup, he gets a horrible one with only Skitty. He continues to get nothing, and turn 3 I get a Skyridge Kabutops and KO it. =\
Game two: We both start with Dunsparce, he lets me go first. We both get a decent setup, but mine is a little better. I get Kabutops ex running pretty quick and start KO'ing everything. He sends up Rayquaza and I Shard it. There was not much he could do.
Second match - Swampert/ex/Suicune ex (TheDeuce)
I knew this would probably be the toughest match for me all day. I knew Will was a good player, and Swampert and Kabutops are pretty evenly matched.
Game one: We both get decent starts, but pretty soon Will finds something out. 2 of his prizes are Delcatty, and 2 of them are Mudkip. Ouch. There's not a whole lot he can do with only 2 Mudkip, and eventually my Kabutops ex takes everything he has down.
Game two: We both get good starts again. This time, his prizes have 2 Mudkip AGAIN and a Swampert. That's terrible. I hate winning games like these. He puts up a fight, and he wants to deck himself, but I KO'd him before he could.
Third match - Team Aqua's Kyogre/Manectric/Lanturn
Ok, first off I was happy to be IN the finals. With the day I had, starting 0-2 and all, it seemed impossible that I'd be in the finals. I promised myself I wouldn't lose after coming this far.
Game one: I got Kabutops ex out pretty quickly, and took down a Kyogre and Manectric. After that he just tried to stall with Kyogre, but eventually I took him down.
Game two: I started with a lone Skitty, and got nothing for 2 turns, even after a TV Reporter. He KO'd me with Kyogre 3rd turn.
Game three: Both of us get a good start. This game was kind of weird. I use Dunsparce to grab a few Buried Fossil and Skitty, and he builds up Kyogre. Eventually I get 2 Kabutops ex out and just hid behind a Mysterious Fossil while building them. I start attacking with one and take out his Kyogre because of a mental mistake on his part. He could have used Nurse, but instead played Archie, not realizing he played a Supporter. He puts me to sleep with another Kyogre, and I play Warp Energy on it. I Hydrocutter and get 1/2 Heads. This was a part where I played 3 Boost in 3 turns for 3 KO's. :\ I Oracled for 2 Boost and just kept taking down his TA Manectric. In the end, the 2 Kabutops ex were too much for him and I wore him down.
So, I finally won a tournament. -_- His deck was pretty original, though. Team Aqua's Ball isn't a Supporter and can get potentially any Pokémon he needed, along with Archie and Conspirator. It seemed to constantly get setup. Thanks for reading (if you bothered). I might see some of you at Origins...
