Important Information for Worlds Players | News | Pokemon.com

Want to know whether you’ve qualified for the World Championships via Championship Points? Here’s how you can check.

There are two ways to find out whether you have gained enough Championship Points to earn an invitation to the World Championships in Hawaii. You can perform a ranking search: select your age division and location, select “Championship Points” in the “Search Type” field, then click “Search” to see the rankings. Or, you can log in to your Pokémon Trainer Club account, click on the “My Play! Pokémon” tab, and check the Championship Points listing under “My Stats” to see your ranking number for your zone. Make sure to select the 2012 tournament season! Each zone gets a different number of invitations (see below), and if you fall within that number—for example, if you live in North America and your ranking number is 1 through 40—that means you’re qualified for Worlds!

Here’s how many invitations each zone gets per age division:

North America: 40
Europe: 50
Asia Pacific: 10
Latin America: 5

If you believe you have qualified for the World Championships based on this status check, please log in at support.pokemon.com, select “Ask a Question” from the Home tab, and then select “Worlds Confirmations” from the drop-down menu. Enter “Confirming Worlds Attendance” in the Summary line, and provide the following in the Details section:

Player ID
Full Name
Zone in which you earned your invitation
Your age division
Whether or not you will be attending
Whether or not you will require late registration
You may also be notified via email that you have qualified if we have your contact information on record already. Receipt of this email is a formality and is not required prior to confirming your attendance at Worlds.

Congratulations and good luck to everyone who has qualified and will be attending the Pokémon TCG World Championships!

Worlds Information and Tips

This year will be my son's (US Junior) first "Worlds" Experience, thus we appreciate any tips that all would provide. I have some questions and appreciate everyone's help!:

1) Does Pokemon provide an information package of information showing the Calendar of events, locations, etc..? If not sent, when is this information posted?

2) How do we best get locations and times, etc.. in advance of the event?

3) Are World's Events for Pokemon Players not directly associated with the Pokemon Company to happen during Worlds posted anywhere (i.e. I've heard "The Top Cut" conducts a special event, Pokegym, etc...)? If so, where is this information posted (i.e. Pokegym)

4) I've heard that there is a lot of card trading with international players and that they are interested in cards from Promo events (i.e. card from US Nationals). What are tips for trading (best locations, best items to trade for etc...)?

5) When does Pokemon's official "Worlds" Store open? I've heard stories about people waiting in line for the store to open and that certain items sell out. What are best tips?

6) What information is available about Grinders (location. times to register, rules, etc...)? Where can it best be found? How many players are expected in Masters Grinders? How many places are they usually playing for?

7) Eating Tips --- we appreciate any recommendations you have to all that have been to this location in Hawaii in the past! My son eats a lot of Kraft MacNCheese. Are there any restaurants that serve Kraft MacNCheese?

8) When does Pokemon officially arrive? When can we first find someone to talk with about logistics etc... that is on site? We plan to arrive on the 8th, thus hope to talk with someone as early as possible so.

9) Please share any additional tips you have to make the "Worlds" Experience a successful and fun one for a 10-year-old Junior.

Thank you all for your help ---- and Congratulations to those that qualified for Worlds this year and in past years.

3) Just troll around the open play area, you'll find stuff. But why would you want to worry about that? Grinders are awesome. The FREE 8-man sides give out packs for winning just one game, and there are tons upon tons of them going on all the time. I think I ran about 30 of them personally in one day. And there were about 20 Judges running these all day long. Plus the Prereleases. And the Drafts. You're gonna get TONS of stuff done even if you don't start with Pokgym or TTC.

4) You'll find them. Pretty easily. Just look for the mass of people and lots of stuff floating around the floor.

5) Dunno. But if you're not in line by midnight, you're not getting the "good stuff".

7) Everything in Hawaii is expensive. Pack a few dozen dozen bagels, and you'll be fine for the weekend.

8) At least a day before the fun begins. But you probably won't be able to talk to them until the morning of, if at all, unless you're already qualified. Then they'll send you information either through email or snail.

9) Just let him go. Seriously. For the most part, Worlds is a pretty insular experience. Everything takes place in roughly the same place. Give him a cell phone or a walkie-talkie, a small amount of money, and try and follow him as best as you can. You won't be able to keep up. Things start early, and go til late, and he'll want to be a part of everything. Sleep is for the airplane, and he'll sleep a long, long time after the fun is over. Worlds is like US Nationals, only more spectacular in every possible way. Enjoy it!

1) They normally have boards up that shop what events are at what time around in multiple places.

2) You could email a OP or it might be on Pokemon's website.

6) Grinders are at 8:00 AM on August 10 I believe. You can't read the future so you don't know how many people will show up but I know it will be a lot. I don't know how many places there are playing for but count your self lucky and really good if you survive.

Its right on our Worlds badges. Very convenient IMO. He won't miss anything as long as he keeps his badge
2) How do we best get locations and times, etc.. in advance of the event?
There'll be signs all over the halls and the entrence of the hotel. Be at prereg and you'll get your badge. From there, no problems
3) Are World's Events for Pokemon Players not directly associated with the Pokemon Company to happen during Worlds posted anywhere (i.e. I've heard "The Top Cut" conducts a special event, Pokegym, etc...)? If so, where is this information posted (i.e. Pokegym)
Probably, but they won't be official. Just look around in worlds threads.
4) I've heard that there is a lot of card trading with international players and that they are interested in cards from Promo events (i.e. card from US Nationals). What are tips for trading (best locations, best items to trade for etc...)?
YES YES YES. Bring anything that the Japanese players don't get. Promo cards, prerelease sleeves... anything that you think they might not get. People also want vintage cards and good cards. Trading is a-pleanty.
5) When does Pokemon's official "Worlds" Store open? I've heard stories about people waiting in line for the store to open and that certain items sell out. What are best tips?
7 AM on the dot. Get there early. There was a line-up for hours before that. Your son will get one of everything in his bag from making worlds. Don't worry about that unless you want more. If you want more, prepare to line up! They'll run out after the first crowd (unless you want a plushie), so get there quickly. Your son should have everything he wants. Mats sell for A TON, so if he doesn't love it, keep it sealed).
6) What information is available about Grinders (location. times to register, rules, etc...)? Where can it best be found? How many players are expected in Masters Grinders? How many places are they usually playing for?
Worlds is single elim, but the games are best of 3. Only 4-8 people usually make it to worlds through grinder. There'll be signs posted saying when it will be. It'll be friday... the line will be at about 8-9. You cannot miss that line. There's no advantage to getting in first, so don't worry about it. I have no idea how many people will be in masters TBH[/b]

Pack as much as you can. Restaurants on site will charge you an arm and a leg for anything. I remember getting a bag of dried mangoes for like $15. The breakfast buffet on site is really good, but other than that, I can't recommend anything really. There is no "snack shack" or junk food place on site that I can think of. Pack as much as you can get past TSA. You'll appreciate it.

Players hang out around the front desk from Tuesdayish on. If you're talking about TPCi, they'll be there, but they're always super busy. The doors open on Friday, so don't worry about too much. You can usually catch a TPCi employee running around (I love they're polos btw), but they're often too busy to talk.

Have fun and don't worry too much about the games. Don't forget to enjoy Hawaii... for being Hawaii. Pack a bathing suit... they often do Pokemon movies in the pool. Make sure he plays as many people as he can. I met some of my best Pokemon friends through interacting with random people at worlds.

My responses are in bold. I hope those help. I hope you and your son love worlds and Hawaii ;P

7) Did you guys completly forget about the food court 10 mins from there? I remember eating a subway meal for 7$ which is even cheaper than in San Diego. You could also buy some breakfest there and keep it in your hotel room.

the rooms at the hilton have small refrigerators, so keeping groceries in the room isn't a problem...

I just want to say how completely inconvenient and unintuitive it was to confirm my invite. I must have spent 10-15 minutes figuring out where to go, and others have expressed the same thing. Why did they change it to this system?

I remember when they had us send them our flight information. That wasn't fun. This way was unintuitive and just confusing. I don't know how hard this would be, but I would rather they prompt invitees to confirm their invites when they login to their pokemon.com accounts. Wouldn't that be intuitive and convenient? Either way, the new system doesn't do much harm... its just completely arbitrary and confusing.

It does feel slightly awkward to do, but on the other hand, I got a confirmation reply in less than 24 hrs, which is pretty good.

Ha ha . . . yeah, even though you know there's plenty of time, it still feels good when you get the confirmation.

That actually makes more sense.

I remember the postage on them one year was $10 to send to the UK. I dunno how many people actually used them on their luggage for the trip out anyway.

I hope they send the luggage tags ahead of time! My son definitely uses them for the flight there. I'm hoping they go back to giving the competitors bags. Those messenger bags from a few years back were so amazing! He still uses it as his carry on...with his extra luggage tag on it. I think these sorts of things matter to the younger players, but if they change it, it'll be ok. The swag bag is still awesome!
