All right, first I must say how GREAT it is to be judging again. I've been loaded with a bunch of different things, but now that I've found the time for one of my earliest obligations (THIS CONTEST!!!), it's awesome! I'm seeing so many good lists, LOTS of creativity from all sides, and it's all a blast.

I'll spoil a bit of this before the actual scores are posted: Blazi-King VS Acutin was decided by only two points, and that's NO gimmick! This contest is really that close, what with all of the great deckbuilders involved. If you look at that list of competitors, you'll see both new and old stars throughout this field. They KNOW how to make good lists, push the format to limits it never knew, and generally perform to the high standards Pokemon fans have.

Enough mumbling, here are the results!!!

Ok basically what I have done with Kingler is incorperated it into the deck known as "Delta" since it fit really well in there. I felt that Kinglers potential just amplified being put into a deck that is similar to it. What im referring to is "Delta" Pokemon.

With that being said lets get to the card choices:
Mawile - Is a great starting pokemon to use in conjunction with Kingler. The ability for it to search out Tools and non-supporter cards such as Holon Tranceiver, Windstorm, Cursed Stone, etc, gives the deck much needed versatility and search.

Kingler d - Is the required peice for me to build my deck around. But, Kingler is much more than that. It has no powers, has a decent first attack, but what makes the card good is the second attack. TO be able to put a fluffy berry on it or a cessation crystal makes the attack do 80 more damage making Kingler a possible main attacker in the deck.

Pikachu d (HP #79/110) - Chose this Pikachu over the others just for the fact that its a delta pokemon and is steel so that I can abuse them, if need be, with my Adventurer.

Raichu d - Here is the real deal IM using the Kingler with. Raichu comboed with Kingler and Eggs makes this a deck to be reckoned with. I can take advantage of anyone using powers or bodies to my favor. Plus, being able to do 80-90 for 3 energy and 2 discard is decent in itself.

Exeggcute d - Same as Pikachu d

Exeggutor d - Same as Raichu, but also to give me a decent matchup with my mirror, that and im running Delta pokes.

Holon Magnemite - So that I can search for a energy when I need it.

Holon Magneton - In case I get stuck with magnemite, I can at least evolve it an attach with Holons Magneton...Also gives me added energy for Kingler.

Holon Tranceiver
Holon Mentor
Holon Adventurer
Holon Scientist
Holon Farmer
Holon Researcher
^Well you know the reason behind the Holon Engine, So I wont go into each and everyone. Its what makes the deck possible.

Celio's Network - Ok, the reason for 2 Celios Network is that im running pokemon that arent "Delta" and may need to get them if I dont have the means the other way (Holon Engine).

Cessation Crystal - Is a wonderful card to help disrupt the opponent's ability to get setup early. Especially with the addition of Jirachi DX in Holon Engines. So being able to control that Jirachi first turn is great.

Fluffy Berry - To help aleiviate some of that distasteful retreat of my beast, Kingler. Also to help aid his attack.

Solid Rage - I added one of these into the deck seeing that if I am behind and am able to get this card with Castaway, I can do some pretty neat things with any of my attackers by adding 20 more damage to it as long as im behind. Excellent!

Windstorm - Mainly to help counter my Kingler mirror, if they are using NRG roots....A surprise Windstorm could potentially get me a KO.

Castaway- I figured since im running all sorts of tools and supporters, that I would play castaway so that I could easily have another means of searching out the cards I need. Especially the Tools.

Metal Energy - For those steel delta pokes.

Delta Rainbow Energy - For those Delta pokes again, plus the versatility factor again makes it into the deck over rainbow and basic energy.

Double Rainbow Energy - For NRG acceleration

Scramble Energy - Same as DRE in case I get behind.

Most of what I said is theoretical and wont be confirmed until it has been played and proven to work, which takes countless hours of said testing. I have not the means to test in that kind of detail due to my schooling currently.

Deck (7/10): Good Pokemon lines, and solid choice in the trainer engine. Certain factors about the Mawile engine don’t seem to flow (I get the impression just one more attachable-to-basic energy/Magnemite would have been huge here). Maybe the Windstorm was a play anticipating a mirror that just never came to be in this format (at least for now), but I see those being better used in other areas. Also, I question how useful the Celios really are for the build, considering Mentor gets your Krabbies/Holon’s Magnemite, and there’s always an alternative to Magneton, but there isn’t much of a problem with them.

Creativity (2/5): I really didn’t see the creativity pushed-while Kingler does work as a card to go in Rai-eggs, it seems to clutter the flow of the deck more than enhance it.

Card Use (4/5): While the creativity didn’t get me, the card use is a winner. While I wish there was just a bit more variety in tools (so many in this format!), that works, and Castaway’s THE way to hold this deck together. Bonus for Mawile…awesome choices all around to support Kingler d.

“Pokemon: 14
4 krabby mc
4 kingler d
3 slowpoke ds
3 slowking UF

Energies:15
3 psychic energies
3 metal energies
3 fire energies
4 double rainbow energies
1 holon's magnemite
1 holon's magneton

Trainers: 31
4 holon transceiver
2 holon mentor
1 holon adventurer
1 holon researcher
1 holon farmer
4 battle frontier
3 celios
3 castaway

3 cessation crystal
2 fluffy berry
2 mysterious shard
2 cursed powder
1 solid rage
1 crystal shard
1 strenght charm

key card: kingler delta

strategy:

- Onto the pokemon: a thick line of 4-4 kingler combined with a 3-3 slowking to set up ASAP. No matter the starter you open with, if its krabby just charge it up quickly and start hitting hard in turn 2 or 3. If you get to start with slowpoke, prepare a benched kingler and when you finally manage to evolve your active slowpoke, use slowking's power to get a fluuffy berry for a free retreat ;).

-Onto the energies:
The energy line is diverse. Psy and fire energies can be search with castaway; metals, the magnemite and the magneton can be searched by using holon researcher. The DREs are for a speed porpouse, as usual.

Onto the trainers:
A solid holon engine is needed here, good draw mid game, and a high probability of a mentor in the first turns to get a good set up. Evolutions can be searched by researcher (kingler), or celios (which one can be pulled out of the deck by using castaway).
Battle frontier is basically a counter stadium, but helps to counter decks like metanite that are quite a bit headache due to king's weakness.
Castaway is crucial in the very first turns... it gets the energy you need out of your deck and gets your celios or mentors for an early set up. It also provides you of tools which is good if couldnt get your slowking as fast as your kingler!
And finally, the tools:
i have picked the best i could think of...

-Cessation Crystal: it stops slowking's power, but hey, you just need one tool at a time, so its not a big deal.. when kingler gets koed and cessation crystal gets out of play, you will be able to search again with your slowking... stopping your oops powers is priceless
-Fluffy betty: esential to avoid stucking with an opening slowpoke
-Mysterious shard: ex protection ? woaa, 3 energies for 80 damage and ex cant hit you !! amazing
- Cursed powder: big pokemon with 110 hp are a headache.. you can afford koing those with 90 (with strenght charm), those with 100 (with solid rage if you are losing), but 110 is way too much, cursed powder is a nice card to finish those big pokemons.
- Solid rage and strenght charm: ko those pokemon your opp thought will survive another turn is always a nice way to surprise
- Crystal shard: avoide weakness, surprise factor is again great :D

The goal is to search the best tool for the situation you are getting through, the tools might have been a little bit more diverse but i prefer consistancy.

Thanx for all, i really had fun doing this :D

Agustín”

Deck (8/10): A great list. I think that the draw/search engine is kind of weird (Celio in max quantity would be good IMO). Good to see you have a counter, although Windstorm looks just as good if not better. I agree with the Pokemon lines, and energy looks good. My only concern is that you may have a fit of bad starts, but I may be wrong.

Creativity (3/5): I’m happy with the direction you took this. “Slowking go fetch tool, turn Kingler into Hulk, and Hulk get ANGRY!!!” is slightly obvious, but still a really good choice for this deck. I like the Mysterious Shard surprise play…it’s clever.

Card Use (4/5): Perhaps what wins you the brownie points here are your many tools. Twelve actually strikes me as a perfect amount, and while I have my opinions on what you could have done better with tool counts, it’s overall good. Castaway in its quantity is great, but due to how few “substance” supporters your play (actual draw), I question the quantity of three.

OVERALL: 15/20

After seeing my old decklist again, I do see a few changes that could be made to enhance the deck better.

Here is what I would have done:
-2 Celios Network
-1 Cessation Crystal
+1 Fluffy Berry
+1 Holon Magnemite
+1 Crystal Shard

NOTE: About the windstorms. You can also target your own tools and stadiums and I felt that If I didnt need the tool on the active (whicheve tool it was, then I could windstorm it. Attach another w/o having to retreat to do the same thing wasting valuable energies).

CC.. shoulda went with more tools.. but I dont understand y ACUTIN didnt play Windstorm in a Tool Abusing Deck?? Windstorm a Cessation Crystal.. use Kings Power.. get what you need.. very puzzling!

pretty simple... if you have cessation crystal in play you basically dont need anything else. You have a tool that increases your attack power and also stops your opps powers. why would you throw it away??? there are so little situational cases that i can think of (for example, if my opp is 10 hp away from beign knocked out, windstorming my cessation for a strenght charm would be great, but well.. i repeat its TOO SITUATIONAL) ... when cessation leaves play i can search my deck for another tool and keep on hitting hard.

im anxious to start the next round :D i love this contest

good luck to all the remaining players :thumb:
and thanx patriarch for finding time to do the judging !

It is situational.... let's say against Metanite.... you bring up a Kingler with Crystal attached and OHKO a Metagross. Your Opp brings up a Draggy knowing they can at least flip for Agility seeing that you can't Shard your Kingler.... if tails flip, Windstorm your CC and go get Shard.. OHKO!
Or if Someone Brings out a Queen d from the Bench and you want ot retreat that Kingler.. Windstorm.. Search for Fluffy Berry for the Free Retreat of Kinlger that can live to fight another day and Bring up Slowking to possible OHKO it!

I agree it is Situational.. but as the old saying goes.. rather Have it and Not need it than not have it at all!:thumb:

NIce deck nontheless and kudos! Just sayign that Windstorm gives you a little more Variety to the deck!
