Iron Chef - Master Emeritus
~~~Dendrobatida~~~
“I've been doing this Iron Chef thing for a long time now, and I've never actually made a deck that I'd be willing to play in a tournament in actuality. Until now. At first, I was skeptical about Delcatty EX. It's great tech in quite a few decks, but in Iron Chef, you've got to make it the focus of the deck, whether by abusing its power or using it to attack. Since you can really only make use of its power once a turn, the power wasn't the way to go (though it is absolutely vital for this deck). Thus, Delcatty's got to be the attacker. And not a backup attacker, for after something else has discarded a bunch of energy, because that's, well, backup, and doesn't fit the Iron Chef theme. That ruled out stuff like Charizard d, Raichu d, Primeape d, etc. In fact, it ruled out just about anything that throws energy away to attack, because you'd be using that primarily, and then delcatty as just a one-shot wonder. And there are better one-shot wonders in the format (See Lati@s *, Lugia EX). So, Delcatty as attacker....
Buzzsaw (Elecatty?)
3 Skitty (LM - Important Errands)
3 Delcatty EX
4 Elekid d (DF)
4 Electabuzz d (DF)
1 sableye (CG)
TOTAL: 15
4 TV reporter
4 Transceiver
3 Mentor
2 Adventurer
2 Holon Lass
3 Wally’s Training
4 Holon Ruins
TOTAL: 22
4 Boost Energy
2 React Energy
9 fighting Energy
4 Darkness Energy
4 Cyclone Energy
Total: 23
Strategy:
Delcatty needs a great deal of draw to work successfully - sick amounts, in fact. And delcatty needs it early. Enter Electabuzz d. And mentor. And ruins. And the holon engine. And TV reporter. An ideal start would be t1 skitty, but elekid works just fine, since Delcatty likes it when you retreat elekids and electabuzzes. Sableye is a nifty starter too, since he can shut down holon's castform. He also makes a nifty play against banettes...
Mentor plays a key part in this deck (when doesn't it?), for it allows you to search for both elekids and electabuzzes, spamming them early. It only takes 2 mentor to get 3 buzz in play, and that's what you're aiming for. That's 3 cards to draw a turn. Ruins is a fourth. Ruins also lets you discard energy. Once you get a large enough hand, delcatty will throw your energy away for you, and we play a ton of energy. The idea is to draw like a fiend, dump energy like a fiend, and recycle it back into the deck, to repeat the process. 60 damage a turn, or whatever's in your discard (which is almost always more).
I recommend building it on apprentice and playing a few solo games, because I didn't realize how fast it was until I did so, didn't get a feel for what it does until I did so. And it was a ton of fun.
Individual cards:
-Skitty - opted for important errands, because it grabs a react energy. More energy in the hand = good.
-Delcatty EX - Ingredient. The power is what gives you damage. Nice disruption, too. Since we draw so much, and then cut our hand size back down, we don't play scientist or copycat; our hand will almost always be of the same size, or larger, than our opponent's, making the two cards useless. In my test runs, it wasn't uncommon with this deck to have 15-18 card hands. Let your opponent go ahead and scientist....and then throw 12 of their cards away.
-Elekid d - Needed for electabuzz. Can attack for colorless, snipe the bench, be thrown away for 4 with adventurer, activates holon ruins while in play.
-Electabuzz d- Draw. Draw. Draw. 2 mentor = 3 in play = 3 cards per turn. Placed on elekid, it removes flygon's counters, etc. Has swift, so we can attack just about anything out there.
-Sableye - Tech. Lets us throw away an extra energy per turn, if we're lucky. It's not a bad starter, but more than one on our bench won't really help us that much - if it's not an energy on top, the next sableye isn't going to magically make it one, and we don't want to throw away non-energy cards in this deck. We'd rather have an electabuzz, since that places the card in our hand, where we can choose to throw it away or not, rather than having to toss it.
-TV Reporter - Draw AND throw energy away. Obvious.
-Transceiver - it is key to repeat usage of mentor, adventurer, and especially holon lass.
-Mentor - Instant electabuzz + 1, throws energy away.
-Adventurer - see TV Reporter
-Holon Lass - Absolutely essential. With 23 energy in the deck, this card will provide you with a significant amount of your firepower, particularly early.
-Wally’s Training - our 4-6th delcatty EX'es.
-Holon Ruins - See TV Reporter. Countergym for cursed stone, holon legacy, battle frontier.
-Boost energy - Quick 60 for delcatty, and it gets thrown away. Synergy.
-React energy - Skitty can grab it early.
-Fighting energy - powers electabuzz, the only thing in the deck requiring a noncolorless energy.
-Darkness energy - 4 energy for a tech sableye? Yeah....why not? A sableye with a dark will do 40 to a banette, and shut its one attack off.
-Cyclone energy - Kick a safeguarder to the bench, kicks a cessation crystal to the bench, generally irritating, and hey, it's more energy.
Questions one could ask:
Q: Why so much energy?
A: It is your primary damage method, and several serve traineresque functions, or add damage. I tried it with fewer, but found this to be the minimum I could work with (holon lass needs to grab at least 4 or so...)
Q: Why no * pokemon (rayquaza, gyarados)?
A: Not a great starter, hard to build without energy manipulation, and so they can be seen coming from a mile off. Since this is very much a speed deck, if you're having to slow build a ray *, you've got issues....
Thanks!”
Deck (8/10): A very solid list! Maxing Delcatty ex seems to be vital here, and some way to counter cessation crystal/tools in general would have been preferred. However, this is a great list in several ways.
Creativity (3/5): When I saw this list a while ago, the Electabuzz took me by surprise, and it’s indeed a perfect fit. Clever ideas, but a bit bland I guess. This could be pushed even further in creativity.
Card Use (5/5): While the creativity is only “good,” your card use is just awesome. You abuse the power like no other, make the first attack work like a charm (almost every single card in the deck directly contributes to the almost unlimited damage), and even make the second attack viable! While not a perfect deck (“perfect” is so subjective), Dendro’s card use is supreme.
OVERALL: 16/20
~~~Acutin~~~

Gogogo Delcatty!!!

Pokemon: 20
4 Skitty Lm
4 Delcatty ex
2 Feebas Em (Submerge Poke-Body)
2 Milotic d
2 Porygon Uf
2 Porygon2 Ds
4 Aerodactyl d

Trainers: 26
4 Strange Cave
4 Great Ball
4 Master ball
4 Celios
4 Castaway
4 Lady Outing
2 Tv Reporter

Energies:14
6 Fire
3 Lighting
3 Water
2 React

Onto the pokemons:
A 4-4 delcatty ex line to get it out ASAP without using any supporters aswell. I've chosen the LM skitty to search for a react energy in case its my opening pokemon so i start getting energies on my hand to increase Delcatty Ex first attack damage.Getting out Milotic d and Porygon is your priority. Its powers are what makes the deck fast and consistant. 4 Aerodactyls are needed... after you increase your hand to 6 cards with porygon, draw some cards or search for something you need with Milotic... you can send one energy card to your discard pile (using delcattys power) with every aerodactyl you get into play.

Onto the energies:
6 fire energies for Aerodactyl and Milotic.. then ive chosen 2 other basics so i can take the most of Lady outing. Moreover, having fire, water and lighting energies is really cool and fashion :p

Finally, onto the trainers:
Its a weird engine... sounds quite random at first, but i suggest you to give it a try. 4 great balls, 4 masterballs and 4 celios to do the job. You might ask how do you search for delcatty... well .. if the masterballs dont get it, porygon and milotic will do it :). Strange cave is a good counter stadium since it doesnt benefit much more decks and its the best way imo to get lots of aerodactyls into play. Finally, 4 castaway 4 lady outing and 2 TVR are here to be used just before you attack. You use porygons power, then use milotic.. then use this supporters to get more energy, supporters or extra cards you need... you should have a 12 cards hand size :) use delcattys power and discard lots of energies!!! if you are lucky you can do lots of damage consistantly just for an energy ;)

Finishing in this way, i want to say that i made this deck as synergized as i could :p but it is in no way a competitive deck. Although i had a lot of fun testing it :)

Thanx for reading, and good luck to all of the elite eight deckbuilders!!!

Deck (6/10): I’m overall pretty happy with what I see here, but I do have a few issues. While you do an excellent job with the Pokemon choice, I can’t help but feel like you overdo it by playing Milotic, and play too few energy. The trainer line is also solid, but Catty is just mudered by a Cessation Crystal in this list. I like your Lady Outing play, though.

Creativity (3/5): I think the premise of Aerodactyl/Delcatty is a very intriguing one, and while not the most unique thing in the world, is a step in the right direction. I would have liked to see the envelope pushed more, but this is a difficult card to work with. Good job.

Card Use (4/5): Well, you certainly abuse the power and the first attack-this list can consistently recycle your fuel. Your draw line is extremely solid and helps the power a ton. Great job.

After much thought, and self-congratulations, my deck should be titled "Dendrocatty." Because humbleness > me.

Thanks for the match, Acutin! Think we both should've got 5/5 for creativity, if only because nobody else in the world is usin' Delcatty EX, let alone with Electabuzz or Aerodactyl :p

Thanks again, Patriarch!

congratulations dendro!!!
I really loved the decklist, you've got a point there!
you deserve being in the top 4 deckbuilders ;)

good luck in your next rounds
