Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Is Pokemon the Best Out There...?

I've played Magic against my brother using cards from his collection. It's an okay game. Sometimes I have an urge to play against him again. But in my opinion, it isn't worth shelling out lots of money for.

I haven't tried Yu-Gi-Oh as it looks like it plays like Magic (and also Nintendo Power's Yu-Gi-Oh reviews say that it does).

Pokemon is best for me.

I've been saying that Yu-Gi-Oh is the poor man's Magic. If you play Yu-Gi-Oh, you might as well play Magic instead. ... I wouldn't touch that game with a 10 foot stick.

Either pokemon or magic. I play mostly pokemon, and I'll attend a magic draft every once in a while. Considering that you probably already know pokemon, I would suggest sticking with it.

vital- yeah, this is the same ole tia3. im baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!! heh. right now, im fighting for A FICTION FORUM. :) the link is in my sig; please post if you want a fiction forum!!! FICTION ROCKS!

everyone else-- thank you so much for all of your input. i think what ill do is wait until nintendo comes out with the first block of cards, and see how the game does from there, because pokemon really was a great game...

The first set is out...it`s Ruby and Sapphire. :)

No matter what game you choose, a very good piece of advice is make a name of yourself in your area. Show your skills and pay attention to those around you. Once you are one of the best players of whatever game in your area people respect you and you get more chances to become better. Also, you start to get free stuff. :D

Trust me... I know from experience. It took me a few years, but now I have VERY good connections.

Props to everyone here that has posted here and has returned from M:TG or Yu-gi-oh to Pokemon. I'm very proud to be part of a game that has been through so much and a game that is only going to get better. And also whoever asked this question needs a reality check. If you go to a Pokemon board and ask which is the best TCG to play, what do you think they're going to say?

I like Magic The Gathering for its simple game mechanics yet its super complex strategy. Pokemon is my number one game overall, because I just want to be the greatest trainer of all time. (Don't we all?) I like the interesting concept of Neopets and Duelmasters to play as well.

Yup think I have to agree with the consensus of opinion.Pokemon seems to have got the ingredients right.A mix of deck building, playing skill, luck, good collectable cards etc.Good for kids, teens and adults-a completely balanced game.MTG is a great game but tough to get into.I feel YGO gets unfairly slagged off.Although I am commited to Poke I can see the appeal of YGO as well.

Now, I must say that in the end, the TCG you play is your decision alone. HOWEVER:

-Yu-Gi-Oh is currently VERY popular. Of all the TCG's, it's easiest to find organized play for it, as opposed to other games. This TCG is worth playing for the replay value you'll get for the next 2-3 years.

-Pokemon, however, is currently on the rise as of late, due to the heavy success of the video game, and Nintendo printing the game. This TCG is worth playing for the solid game combined with its solid player-base.

-To round up the list is Magic: The Gathering. Not the most popular thing right now (opposed to YGO), and not the highest quality product (opposed to Pokemon). However, Magic offers the best to its players, and will live on. This TCG is worth playing for security and the most extreme competition of any game out there.

-Then there are the other games, may they be stable or not. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Dragon Ball Z, and Lot5R stand highest among these games for several reasons, and deserve some honorable mentions. But to put it bluntly, there are absolute loser games like Tomb Raider and Scooby-Doo, which must be avoided at ALL costs. ^_-

have any of you actually tried wizards star wars tcg?

in my opinion, its a really fun game, for people who are fans, and those who arent.

I do.. I haven't been able to find many cards though, it seems that only the AotC set was released in mainstream stores. I did manage to get a few Sith boosters in Forbidden Planet (back when they were selling 11 card boosters for 75p o__o I should've picked up ten packs, at least!), and I got the ANH Dark side deck..
I've built a deck of my own.. fairly crappy, but of course, haven't managed to play against anyone else. :\
I did teach one friend the game, but if I'm playing him, we just use 40-card decks (cause I just don't have enough cards! ^^')

!!!

HOLY COW!! Vital, this is spago from #pokegym, and more exactly, DARK ARMY!! OH YES!! I still talk to Gr81 all the time, he lives like 20 min away from me. WHAT UP TIA!! Man, I totally miss the old days of #pokeleague and #pokegym :(

If I were going to start up a new game fresh, it would either be Poker or Magic. Magic is a game that is supported like no other TCG ever has, is, or (most likely) will be. There is a massive player base with ALL TYPES of people. To catagorize a "Magic player" would be like trying to catagorize a similar group of people (Like saying all Americans, or Women, or East Coast people are the same... they aren't). The MTG players around where I live are a great bunch of guys, and I actually talked with them more in between rounds of Pokemon tournaments than I did the other Pokemon players. They were just a great group of people-- not to say that Pokemon players aren't. If ukpokemonpro and Nick15 just ran into a bad pocket of them (which is probably the case, with so many players, there is bound to be a few bad apples), I wouldn't let it ruin your opinions of ALL of them. Magic has many, many formats, and the existing ones are changing and adapting constantly. Also, it's supported by Magic Online, which is great for teaching you how to play and testing, etc. If money and a tourney scene is your concern, they've got that covered better than any TCG out there. If a player base is your concern, they win, hands down.

I think Poker is a great game to get involved with, too. I think it's a lot of fun, and you can make some serious money at it, if you're good. The strategy in that game is simply unbelievable. It's like... unreal how many aspects of the game you have to know to be good at it. Not only do you have to know the game and it's strategy inside out to be a capable player, but you have to know probability, implied odds, and be able to read people for their tells. And it's especially hard, because to be a great player, you have to know how to play many different games of poker, each with their own seperate strategy. Pick your favorite!

*points to Mossy's post* Do you watch WPT on the Travel Channel? That is some SWEET stuff :thumb:

Yeah, but it's got such a limited card base. 52 cards! 53 if you count the promo, Joker. What's up wit dat??

And only four suits to choose from. So limited. Even Magic has 5.

Not to metion the lousy art. Most of the cards don't even have pictures. And don't get me started on the lack of flavor text!!

And get this: sure, the pack size is generous, but you can't mix cards from one set with another! They all have different card backs!
Believe me. I tried. They kicked me out!

Nice to see you back, Mossy!

I play both YGO and Poke almost equally. Both are good games, both have their weaknesses and strengths. YGO has strategy but its the same strategy that everyone else plays. Everyone has the same decks and its always who has the better luck of the draw. Which gets really annoying.

Pokemon on the other hand has a huge variety of decks. So many ways to win. So many things to expect the unexpected. That in my opinion makes the game more fun. Also the card pool for poke is about 3 times that of YGO.

Lastly Poke is the most cost efficient. In a pack of cards you get a rare and RH. While in other games you only get a rare with the slightest chance of getting a holo. And most of the time there are only a few good holos in the entire set. While in Poke you can use almost all the holos in some kind of decent deck. I know that in YGO, each set would at most have about 3-4 good cards and the rest would be utterly worthless in the current environment. Thats pretty sad if you think about it, all the luck into getting a holo and have it be worthless.

Duel Masters is going to be the best but for now it is MTG. I wish I could play Duel Masters now but I cannot find an English Translation

You must be getting shafted, PokePop. I usually get 2 promo jokers in my packs (they make for good surprise cards when you exchange them with the standard cards.)

I love Pokemon as it has been something I can share with my son and now his younger brother :)

I tried yugioh--hated it. confusing to get started.
We have also gotten started decks of Starwars. That is a fun game but no body to play against. We recently picked up a harry potter deck on clearance. It is a blast to play. Too bad it didnt connect.
But for competition and community Its Pokemon for us.
