Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Judges at Worlds

I write from Italy and I'll spend holidays with my family in Florida on August and I'd like to judge at Worlds in Orlando.
How can I do that? Are there criteria from PUI to enlist judges?
Thanks.

David Schwimmer sent out an email to all the WotC Professors last year for volunteers at Origins and GenCon. I'd imagine that they would make the same request, but you could always send them an email to one of the addresses listed on http://op.pokemon-tcg.com.

Besides, this is a Worlds! Worlds needs plenty of interpreters.

But that email was asking for volunteers to demo the games at those conventions, Phil.

When WotC held Worlds in 2002, the non-WotC judge staff for the main tournaments was invited/selected by MTM and DMTM. I believe a call went out to the professors to see who was attending and would be interested in working as staff for the side events; I'd guess the same type of thing would happen again, but who knows...

Mee can doo that four English. ;)

I sent a letter off to Jimmer a month or so ago, and he sent it over to the people running the event (PUI? The local PTO?). No reply as of yet.

Giday

Although it would be nice to recieve an invite to judge, i doubt it will happen for any of us.

PUI will probably staff the entire event themselves, since they can't reply on us professors being consistant in our rulings.

The way i rule a problem is probably different to other professors.

They can't afford to have the same problem with 2 different rulings from seperate judges. It would cause too many headaches if it happened to a player & they complained.

That's why we have an appelate system. If someone doesn't like the ruling, they can appeal it to the head judge, who then gets the final say. Besides, what are the odds everyone from PUI would be of the same mind, either?

Most of them are not very familiar with the e-series of cards since they were made before they took over.

Lets face it, most professors would love to judge at worlds, the question is if any will get the chance, frankly, I wouldnt mind a little lack of consistency, also, it would be a great experience to learn for the international professors, and it could be made on votation or something like that, it would just be so cool.

I would love to judge at Worlds, but like most people have posted I dont think it will happen. Im sure once PUI gets done with the State Championships at the end of the month and move onto the Gym and Stadium tournaments they will start to look at Judging staff for worlds. Of course who is helping with Nationals? Could be the same people for worlds.

How about considering those who help at the stadium challenges too? (I know GLB would not complain) that way there are 4 chances for profs to get some sort of invitation, then again... we are just speculating, and in this case, dreaming, tho it wouyld be very good.

That would be a nice idea, but as you stated it is a dream. Im sure PUI has something planned for the Worlds already since they have had the info and prizes up on the website from some time now. I will say it would be fun to judge worlds if I am not able to win a invite to play in it, but I dont think it will happen.

Not all people speak English, not all parents of 10- speak English.
Last year the profs overhere were selected on how many languages they speak and most of them speak 3.

Which would make really good sence to have judges that spoke more then one language to help out players, which means Im out for sure. ;)

I really don't know, but it's hard for a 10- if his/her parents is there at worlds and cannot translate.
and even if they speak English, most parents don't have a clue what their kids are doing with those cards.

I was at Gencon last year and my kids played a lot of the pokemon events and I really was needed sometimes for translating. Not for the cards, but more for a situation which appeared.
When I think back I'm really proud on them, because playing all day without understanding anyone around you and still finish as 9th when you are only 6 years old is good.
If there are no translators who know the game at world, than for 10- (non-English speaking) kids it's going to be a disaster, but who will listen if I tell that.

Perhaps we could create a translation card for some commonly used phrases and game objects. it wouldn't be a substitute, but it could help.

I am starting to learn Japanese...

Anyways I did ask POP about how POP is going to need our help with Origins and Worlds and they did say they could use our help as professors. So professors keep an ear on your e-mails for news on Worlds help around July.

I remember that from gencon 02 whne i judged with you yoshi. The ruling of one card was causing mass chaos and we had to get a head judge rule from a MT.

I think judges shoud be chosen by nintendo for this. Get a general email for volunteering and then have david shwimmer and crew choose a dozen or so judges for worlds. Thats just my opinion on it

Only thing, INTL profs that wants to judge at Worlds have to pay for themselves for the trip :\ It's too expensive though, so no Worlds if you are not a winner of National Cahampionship (and as I'm one of the organizers of that event, I can't play ...)
