Judges - Be aware to avoid this situation

I think Heidi Craig and June Clanton gave some examples during the judge training session at Nats. One I recall is to avoid loaning cards to players at an event that you are judging.
 
Last year at a State Championship, the head judge in the SR division was a parent of one of the SR players, including direct judging of the kid's match in top cut. When I brought this up with the tournament staff (including the overall head judge), telling them this looks really bad, the response I got was that the judges (this division head judge in particular) are decorated multiple time Worlds judges, that they are beyond reproach.

I was truly surprised that this is even allowed by the official tournament rules, but I was even more astounded by the arrogance of the response from the tournament staff. Comparatively speaking, a fist bump or loaned card are non-events to me.
 
Thankfully I'm completely new to my local scene so I'm at no danger of this happening, everyone I met was new xD.
