LBS counter

Cacturne ex is severly flawed. It never would beat LBS, I can tell you that, and DocRobot, there are some things that are true about this, but sometimes Lugia won't be played until it really needs to be, plain and simple.

Let's even say that it DOES beat LBS...What does it do against other decks? It doesn't really stand a chance against anything IMO.

When playing LBS you have to play smart. I like to Call LBS LB because everytime I play it, it's not anything about steelix it is that STUPID lugia it really gets on my nerves. At my last cities I ran into 1 of these and I have also played it at my leage serveral times. When I play LBS I focus on one thing pidgeot and blastoise. Without those two pokemon they cannot win, if you play a non-ex deck or a deck that can function with ruins effectively you will almost always win. Like at states I locked the LBS player with Ruins and Houndoom and then messed up there plans with intense glare from Ninetails ex. They also couldn't candy there pidgey or squirtle which slowed the deck down. Another weakness is that they play 3 ex's so after you KO 3 you have the game. It might sound hard but it is easy to get 2 lugia's and at least 1 steelix or blastoise might be a little diffucult. Rock/Cursed Stone would also work good against the deck too. But if you try caturne you will never win there is only one place for caturne and that is your set binder.

Magcargo UF is both Fire and Fighting (if Fighting Energy is attached).

Steelix EX is weak to both Fighting and Fire.

Doesn't the damage double, then double again?

So Magcargo with a DRE on it ([2R] Extra Flame (40+) If the Defending Pokemon is Pokemon-ex, this attack does 40 damage plus 30 more damage. ) would do 60 damage, double for Fire weakness to 120, then double against for Fighting weakness to 240. Right?

How about combining that with Grumpig DX ([2P] Extra Ball (50+) If the Defending Pokemon is Pokemon-ex, this attack does 50 damage plus 30 more damage. ) to 1-hit KO the Lugia?

Tech in a 2-2 Lanturn line to 1-shot KO the Blasty if it comes up, and you've got a nasty little 4 corners going.

Throw in some EXP All to keep the energy flowing and I like your chances.

Too bad 4 corners folds to the rest of the format, even if it did work against LBS.
Kinda like rock/paper/scissors.

4 Corners beats LBS, LBS beats everything else, and everything else beats 4 Corners.

Honestly,

Deck doesn't work without Blastois EX

What ever counter or strategy you employ, take down Blastois, BF Pidgeot.

I think an LM muk swarm with weezing DS and cused ruins might work

BLS does run counter gyms...
Then all they need to do is drop a blastoise and ko the muks faster than you can rebuild them.

That 4 Corners deck doesn't beat LBS, and LBS doesn't beat everything else.

If you deploy a Magcargo UF vs. Steelix ex, first off its going to have to be using Scramble on it, not DRE. Because as soon as you drop Slugma, its getting picked off on the bench. So you'll need RC + Slugma + Magcargo UF + Scramble at one time. Not impossible, but when Steelix ex is OHKOing everything in sight, you're going to have to get it going fast.

Second of all, if you DO take down Steelix ex, it gets Clutched by Pidgeot. Now it can't retreat (Clutch) or attack (its now fighting and Pidgeot resists). Either that happens then LBS sweeps with something else, OR LBS simply leads with ANOTHER Steelix ex, and I don't see you taking down 2 of them.

Worst of all, LBS is one of the few decks that can attack your bench, and I'm pretty sure I'd go for all the EXP.ALLed pokemon to render that card useless.

The fact of the matter is, I don't think a 4-corners deck has ever won a single tournament, ever. Not even in league, not even against whomever Lurili played to get his 10,394-58 record, not in any situation, ever. No 4-corners deck has or will ever win anything, period.

For LBS all I have to say is Typhlosion/Weezing thx for the 2 for 1. To many ex's.

The only time LBS brings up an ex is to take a prize. So, your weezing isn't getting a 2 for 1.

Example:
Steelix becomes active, sacks a pidgeot. 1 prize
Weezing becomes active, liability. 2 prizes for Liability, 1 for LBS.
Prizes are even, LBS gained 2, liability gained 2.
Steelix sacked a stage 1 and an important stage 2. Liability sacked a stage 1 that isn't missed that much.
Now it's back to LBS. They can lugia you, blastoise you(if you dont have an FF) or steelix you(you lack a root and took ten, OHKO range).
Now it's 3 prizes to 2, with LBS having taken a lot of key players out.

The thing is, LBS will be sacking pidgeot off the bat, then when you sack their steelix, they can sack your typhlosion.
They'll have lost a steelix, you'll have lost 2 stage 2s and a stage 1. Good trade.

Here's how I'm pretty sure it would go:
Lugia KOs active Typhlo
Weezing kamikazis and sends up 2nd Typhlo. (2 for 2, no advantage)
At this point it depends on set up.
They may send up Steelix, Admin, and kill the Pidgeot.
Or they may send up another Lugia and kill the active Typhlosion.
If by some act of God you can get another Weezing active and Typlo on the bench you can trade off and tie off the game, but now your Typhlo has 100 HP left. It's officially Steelix bait. Or, if there is no Fire and Holon FF attached, they can send up Blastoise, dropping them to 1 prize and you can't use Weezing anymore.
GG :D All you'll ever be able to do is trade off with them if they play right. As long as they don't let an EX be killed by Typhlosion without killing at least two things first they shouldn't ever fall behind. Liability's one weakness is that it can't ever fall behind and hope to beat an opponent with a good set up.

[EDIT]Ryan beat me to it. :x I started out with taking out Typhlosion with Lugia to force the tie situation. But, if killing the Pidgeot completely cripples them as your first prize then that is obviously worth it.[/EDIT]

Steelix ex? When I first played a LBS I didnt even know it played steelix because I thought it was some Lugia ex gawd deck that some brilliant person thought of. I have never played an lbs that used steelix for the majority of the game that wasnt KO'ed as soon as they send it up steelix is good but a good player knows how to work around snipers. Also, I think LBS should be changed to LBP because they only thing that makes the deck is really is Blastoise and more or less pidgeot lugia is the best attacker IMO and then steelix ex is used for sniping. But to take out LBS all you have to do is get a good ATM off on blasty and pidgeot, lock them into a desert ruins or bf with houndoom, Spread a little damage with Rock-lock. The deck is good but, I definatly dont see it winning ALOT(i said alot) of states at all this talk is reminding me of that amazingly long SMP thread and who is playing SMP now?

I use Steelix a lot more than lugia. 100 damage is usually all that is needed for a lot of KOs. I also find sniping the pidgeot or cargo right off the bat is critical to winning.

Why is it both examples above have LBS taking first prize? If liability takes first prize especially if ex advantage liability. You have to get to much stuff out to start attacking with Steelix. You have to first get out your blastoise and Steelix line. Then search for magneton or electrode.

I believe it was said above if you dont let them take an ex with typhlo. Last time I checked Steelix was weak to fire. Thyplo takes Steelix ex, advantage liability. But also as stated above it depends on set up for both and a little luck.

If they take first prize it will be a Jirachi. So, it doesn't matter. It just means they won't be able to Scramble the whole game and make it easier for you.
