Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

List of States

Troll their FB page. Not one person. Dozens. The more they see that ppl need the information, the more likely they are to release it.

Good idea, if done politely. 8-9 people have already posted comments there (all very polite), but as shadow mentioned, they've been taking them down. Not sure what that's about.

I mean thats good and all, and I am going to be polite as possible. the only issue i have is they say on facebook now that they just found out about it. last week they posted on Facebook that they would let us know last Wednesday. Now I know how hard these things are to organize first hand, but are they really telling us the truth by telling us they just found out? If this is true then who posted on their Facebook page that they were going to tell us last week??

This is just my opinion, being I don't care whether Iowa is week 1 or week 4... (Actually, I might care about 4, but...you get the idea)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a notice would have come from Nintendo... That's not to mention that I highly doubt that they should be just getting this information...

Is there a PTO who runs a States that can confirm this?

I'm no PTO, but notices regarding tournaments would come from P!P or TPCi, not Nintendo afaik.

Makes sense...I agree with envoyofduels, it sounds like Iowa simply has no enthusiasm for the game whatsoever. They need to get better PTOs.

Am not surprised.
Why would Iowa try and get as big as attendance as they can get?
They have a reputation for only caring about themselves.
Thats ok, got plans now for all 3 weeks anyway ;)

Once again, they compete against Illinois' Jimmy Ballard-run tournament during the same weekend, setting themselves with failure in the Midwest once again. That's OK, because the ineptitude of Iowa's States PTO is what keeps this game from growing there, sadly.

Also, [L]Ames? Really? Puhleeze, they don't know how to expand to the rest of Iowa?! Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Sioux City, Dubuque, even? They're all prime markets in the state! They really don't care.

i am not surprised that they decide to go with week 3. this way there are 2 other states(MN and IL) on the same day....

In their defense--and I'm not saying this to justify their announcing as late as they did--there were tournaments on their borders every single weekend. And not just in bordering states, like, seriously right on the border. Week 1 has NE in Lincoln, within an hour of the Iowa border, Week 2 has you in WI, just 20 miles away, and week 3 has MN and IL as you mentioned, both an hour and a half away. So I think they were kind of stuck with having to overlap with someone.

That being said, like you, I do know a lot of players who were hoping that they wouldn't have to choose between St. Louis, Chicago, Minneapolis and Iowa all on the same weekend. So that is too bad.

Ugh, Week 1 was pretty obvious, with Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Missouri players all looking to go to Iowa week one.

^^ I agree 100%--like many who've posted here, I was hoping for week 1. I guess I'll have to make up for it by having twice as much fun at WI states week 2!

Point taken, however, if you look at where the tournaments are actualyy being held, the 20 miles....well lets just say it this way. Ames is 4+ hours from La Crosse, which is where I am from, and where we are having states this year. Jimmy has his in the eastern part of Illinois, so I am certain that the distance between the 2 will be similar. the greater Minneapolis/St Paul area is again a 3+ hour venture to Ames. I am not saying that it would have been better to compete with one state versus the other. My point is that they seem to just do what is best for Iowa and only Iowa. And lets be honest here, is the late annoncement and booking the same weekend as 2 of their largest neighbors really good for their own players? Not to mention thae fact that it does nothing for players from other states that want to travel or to help grow the game.

Jimmy(IL), Jeff(MN), and I (as well as countless other PTOs) work together to plan our tournaments around each other as best we can. This way we can each get the maximum attendacne possible, as well as giving all of the players in everybody's area a chance to travel to other events, should they choose to do so. Is there going to be overlap?? Of course. But being as they booked so late, they had a choice of who to overlap with. Choosing MN and IL over Nebraska?? Not sure if that was good for them. If they had decided to be in the loop from the get go, it would have been far easier to have everyone's input and pread the overlap as far as possible. They not only choose not to contact anyone, but wont even acknowledge other states existance. The fact that these guys cant give players straight answers, and blatently lie to everyone via their facebook is appauling.

@TAndrewT Please dont take this as shots towards you. I know who you are irl, and I have nothing but respect for you. I am just saddened and angered at the whole situation.

This was my point all along, Iowa simply doesn't care about growing the game at all. The lack of player input as well as outright ignoring we, the players only helps to hurt the game in Iowa. What does a poorly inputted, rushed, and misjudged preparation to the state championships tell you about the state of Iowa's affairs?

This is why for as long as they continue these ridiculous habits, that Iowa will only be an example of how not to promote the game for the future.

Just my two cents.
