Lysandre's Last Resort

Skillbased game in terms or resource management and deckthinning? Not any more.
Comeback because opponent burned out resources too fast after a lucky start? Nope.
Alternative deck strategies like milling or working with discard pile? Forget it.

In my opinion, this is the most toxic card for the game since Hypnotoxic Laser. The rest of the set is pretty cool, really intersting and balanced, even the EX. I was looking forward to the next format, but this card kinda spoils it.

I'm hopelessly keeping my fingers crossed that Lysandre's Last Resort is just some huge mistranslation. We haven't seen an effect on a Trainer card that insane since the Base Set-era. . .

Keep mind that BW started printing effects from Base Set. All we need now are supporters that knockout Pokemon and the game is complete.

Like make it Trash Exchange

Maybe make the effect;

Lysandre's Last Resort – Trainer
Supporter

Choose a number of cards in your discard pile up to the number of your opponents remaining prize cards (you can't choose the exact number) and put those cards into your hand. Your opponent takes Prize Cards equal to the number of cards you choose. You cannot attack this turn.

Much better effect for a last resort card.

You may play only 1 Supporter card during your turn (before your attack).

While I don't like the card and would prefer that it didn't exist, I don't think it's that major of a problem for the format. I think it mostly hurts decks like Eels in Extended and the possible future "Steels" in Standard that rely on taking advantage of discard synergies every turn. It also hurts Durant, although without sideboards being a thing in Pokemon, most people will play 0 or 1 of this card, and there's a decent chance that your opponent will mill this card, or you'll have to Juniper it away, or play it when it doesn't help very much. (If you play two Lysandre's Last Resort and two Pal Pad or VS. Seeker to deal with Durant, I expect your other matchups are worse.) It uses your supporter for the turn, and it takes up a deck slot where there are more impactful cards in all matchups that you'll have to be considering. Plus, do you really want to shuffle all the stuff you discarded because it wasn't going to help you in the lategame back into the deck? Sometimes, but not in most decks most of the time.

Don't get me wrong, this card makes me want to draw a single shimmering tear on every Eelektrik card I own, and I own a fair number of Eelektriks. :) But I think it's mostly going to be relevant in Extended, and Battle Compressor at least gives decks a way to fight back. "You shuffled my discard back into my deck? Okay, skyla for battle compressor for three lightning energy, triple dynamotor, dragon burst for 180 and the knockout. Your turn."

(I'd be happier if it went to the Lost Zone on resolution, but I'm not sure Pokemon really wants that to come back.)
