I. Darkrai/Hydreigon - Nampa, Idaho Battle Roads report - 1st place

We kicked of the new season with a Battle Road at the Nampa Civic Center. Everyone was excited to try their decks in the new format. I came in with the intention of playing Ho-Oh EX but changed literally minutes before the deck lists had to be done (that means changing sleeves and writing a deck list). I am comfortable with this change since I have been playtesting with deck a lot. I got done with the help of my wife and brother - thanks Jessi and Shawn! Anyways, this event got rolling fairly quickly.

Deck: Hydreigon/Darkrai EX w/ Terrakion tech
Event: Nampa Battle Roads
Location: City Nampa Civic Center, Nampa ID
Format: Modified (BW-on)

II. Decklist

I'm not going to give my decklist away but just give you an idea - it was a basic Hydreigon/Darkrai EX list with a Terrakion tech which proves very valuable with the Darkrai EX match-up.

III. Deck Strategy

The whole goal of this deck is to build a Hydreigon and then hit with Darkrai while using Max Potions to deny prizes and Sableye to get back key trainer items.

IV. Reported Matches

Round 1: Hydreigon/Darkrai vs. Zeels (Corey)
This game was pretty easy - I built a Hydreigon and started to roll from there - winning 6-1.
Record: 1-0

Round 2: Hydreigon/Darkrai vs. Terrakion EX/Terrakion/Mewtwo EX (Bill Todd)
This is a good friend of mine and we always have a blast playing while together. We both get a good start and his field is 2 Terrakions (w/ Exp. Shares), Terrakion EX (w/ Exp. Share) and Mewtwo EX. I manage to knock out his Terrakion EX with 2 Retaliate/Land Crush. He gets up 4-2 and I think the game is lost with so much energy on his field (both Terrakions could Retaliate or Land Crush). I don't remember a lot but all I know is I think I'm done unless I can get my Shaymin EX and try to sweep the board with him. Late game, I get a Shaymin EX and OHKO a Terrakion. He then hits me with an X-Ball for 80. A few turns go by and we poke at each other while trying to wait for a Catcher. I end up sweeping with Shaymin EX (2x Terrakions and a Mewtwo EX) and I can't believe I pulled that win out. We shake hands and precede to the next round.
Record: 2-0

Round 3: Hydreigon/Darkrai vs. Hydreigon/Darkrai (Amanda Todd - Bill's wife)
This is another good game. I end up setting up my Hydreigion first but she attacks first. We exchange blows but I am able to squeeze by this match as well.
Record 3-0

Round 4: Hydreigon/Darkrai vs. Chandelure/Darkrai EX (Jessica Roest - my wife)
We have play-tested a number of times before and know it gets pretty ugly for one side. Well, this time I get setup and deny her prizes with Max Potion and OHKO her Chandelures with Darkrais. Game goes on a for a little while but I end up winning and going undefeated.

V. Props/Slops, etc.

Props:
Last minute deck change with my wife's suggestion
Going 4-0 in the first tournament of the season
Amazing comebacks
Actually utilizing techs that helped win games
PTO - Jim B.
Trenton for letting me use his Darkrais

Slops:
Having to play my wife in the last game to determine 1st place
Not eating much before or during the whole tournament
Thinking I lost cards (my wife and son got 3rd) like 3 Victory Cups and a Terrakion EX that was pulled out of packs
Fist Pokemon because I use Pokemon allergic to Fist type
