Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Nationals/Invites/Winners

Bohn, you need to talk to the LD about the release date. It won't be an easy conversation, but you can be certain that the LD will be fuly aware if there is lots of product comming in to shops via other routes.

It isn't in the LD's interest to discourage players, but neither do they want to give sales away.

Your petition might be best sent to the governments via your local government member of parliament.

Talk to the LD, I'm sure that it is a much bigger issue for them.

I thought it wasn't allowed to have Invite-only Nationals?

Or was that not the reason for the UK having open Nationals this year?

POP would prefer open events but allow closed events.

French Nationals was open yet had a 100 player entry limit. So not as open as a closed nationals with say 200 entrants qualified to play. It is a bit more grey than just open good, closed bad.

I wouldn't use the UK's example of the switch from closed to open as a guide. Look elsewhere for best practice.

Having a "seating" problem is something very different that excluding players from attending because they need to qualify.
Sorry but invitation only events shouldn't count for rankings the way the rules are this (and past) seasons.

Lia it is easy to turn a seating restriction into an effectively closed event.

On a purely technical point the ratings system this year and previous years is somewhat incompatible with players whose first tournament of the year is nationals. But that is a practical issue and not one of principle.

I know that you wont agree with me on this Lia but it really isn't quite so black and white. I very much doubt that the change from closed to open status for UK nationals will have a positive impact this year. In previous years the invite requirement was almost that you just needed to have a MyPokemon account. The UKs closed nationals were in practice more open than those with seating restrictions. Now for all I'm defending the use of invites in the UK I personally would have had the invites sent out to everyone who had a MyPokemon account. Even with open tournaments you frequently have to apply for a place and are often vetted prior to acceptance. Sending out invites asking people to attend is hardly the actions of an organiser trying to keep attendance down or to exclude players.

LOL of course I know how you can turn a seating restriction into a closed event.

IF there is a true/honest reason to restrict Nationals, I can sure live with it.
If it benefits the complete playersbase, I also can live with it.
But most times it's not those reasons to restrict tournaments, and we all know that.

well Lia, i do understand why we have invite-only event.
Mainly its because of traveling inside Brazil is still expensive, and as the nats take place often in Sao Paulo, i guess they use this structure to avoid massive players from Sao Paulo playing while only a few from other places (something similar that will occur at worlds this year i guess, many players from USA and a few from the rest of the world).
This year on masters we'll have up to 50 invites, its a cool number of invites imo, its not hard to get an invite, every premier event gives a invite with the following structures:

Battle Roads 1 invite per 16 players (in the same age group)
Cities 2 invites. 1 for each 8 players (same age group)
States 3 invites. 1 for each 8 players (same age group)

Where the UK is concerned....
Closed Nationals means, as was said in an ealier thread, means No Premier Points - We opened the Nationals this year to encourage more players to come in (250 seat venue so think we will fit enough people in with room to expand to 300+ if needed) - also for the record we do not vett pre reg applications these are on a first come first served basis. OPen Nationals will/do help expand the game and I am all in favour of them

ah good, i hope davidy didnt win this time :'(

so yeah, good luck for NZ nats - Ring of magma.

heh...Davidy is like a source for cards here. He has a lot. Did he win last year?

Anyway, I'm thinking of running magmortar/typhlosion/delcatty or something similiar. Due to the less number of players here, I don't think I need to worry too much. I really want to go to worlds.
