OK, I have spent quite a bit of time testing Limited formats, sealed with packs, sealed with starter decks and packs, pass-draft, rochester draft.

My preference in these events is as follows:

1. Rochester Draft
2. Sealed Draft with Packs/Starter Deck (NOT FAT style, but where everyone gets 1 of 2 decks)
3. Pass-Draft
4. Sealed with Packs

I looked back and thought, why, why do I like these this way? Skill factor.

So, with Worlds coming up, and big events coming up, I am going to level the playing field.

The BIGGEST problem with the sealed events is that the 6 packs are FAR too random. Even the best players can be hosed by bad packs.

That being said, I thought, and I thought, and I looked at my GIANT STACK of Deoxys starter decks, and thought...boy, what a test it would be if I gave each player the same stuff to start with, to build a 40 card deck, and then they would play off...

So, we are going to do a "unique" limited Sealed event this week at Dragon King - $10 entry, each player gets 2 starter decks from Deoxys, (1 of each) to build a 40 card deck, and play. I am eating some of the cost, becuase I am VERY interested in this experiment.

Ideally, I would like to expand this to be something we could play at Nationals (US), Regionals (US) or Worlds, where each player still makes a 40 card deck, but everyone gets a BATTLE STADIUM and 2 theme decks from the latest set!! MAN THE POSSIBILITIES AND DECK BUILDING SKILL!!! Figure I could get away with a $20 entry fee for all of that (I can get Battle Stadiums CHEAP right now).

I have thought of going to 60 card decks with the last idea, but 40 card decks always attract me. I like the limited deck space, the 4 prizes, and the faster games! 40 cards is the standard for sealed events at this time.

Just my thoughts...anyone going to Dragon King this week - be prepared for this fun event....sanctioned as Limited if I can get 8 players (I already have 3)

Lik3 I said...I like the idea. The varying deck results will be endless.

The only bad thing I see is that, if I remember correctly, there is not a lot of draw in either of the starter decks. Which means that luck will still play a large factor...or not?

I'm sure I'm in. Now you just need 4 more.
