Origins/Nationals

Well its noones exact plan to make GenCon after school starts. Like origins its an event each year that is planned well in advanced. they make the date and look it over. If it fits in with everything, they will plan it. Unfortunily it hits after school starts but that is noones fault, its just the date set every year for it by the company who controls the biggest game fair in the USA
Yeah, but it's not like the dates that schools start is coming as a surprise to them, is it?
Granted, many northern schools don't start until September, so they probably started the thing with local schools in mind, but now that it's a nationally known event, you would think they might adjust the dates that they schedule it,

I don't see how they can avoid conflict with school for _everyone_ myself: after all, some districts are on a 'year-round' schedule, some start before Labor Day (which is what we do...we start at least a week prior), some start after...and that's just here in SD County!

Then when you have to work around the Convention Center's available dates, AND avoid conflict with the 'other' gaming/other conventions...there's probably not a whole lot of scheduling leeway. No matter when they schedule it, SOMEONE'S gonna be unhappy...

In Memphis our school year keeps starting earlier and earlier its seems. Our kids will start the next Fall term on August 8th, 2005. There is no way to avoid conflicting with school schedules as there are so many different systems that start at different times.

The vast majority of kids go to schools that use traditional calendars.

The vast majority of those start the 2nd week of August and beyond (look it up).

Anything scheduled after August 9th (for example), you are guaranteeing to impact school kids.

In 2002, WoTC scheduled Worlds right at the beginning of August. That worked out perfect for all except a very small number of schools.

This isn't that hard.

Pokemon, unfortunatly, will never be as popular as magic. I hate to say that, but the bottom line is that because magic is a more abstract concept, there are going to be people more interested in it.
