I like your States and Regionals Points Chad. Nationals T16-128 seems a bit high. Cities the way they were last year were good, you didn't need to lower it. Battle Road/League Challenges the way they were last year were a smidgen too low IMO, you lowered LCs in your point system.

After the 2012 season, video game players expressed that they were unhappy with the amount of CP given at Nationals in relation to Regionals as well as the fact that CP differed for players eliminated in the same round (ie. 9-12 being higher than 13-16). This season, the CP for VGC was changed as follows. I think TCG might see similar changes at the Regional and National level:

Nationals
1: 480
2: 440
3–4: 360
5–8: 210
9–16: 150
17–32: 90
33–64: 30 (Kicker: 128)
65–128: 15 (Kicker: 256)

Regionals
1: 120
2: 110
3–4: 90
5–8: 70
9–16: 50
17–32: 30 (Kicker: 64)
33–64: 10 (Kicker: 128)
65–128: 5 (Kicker: 256)

Keep in mind that in VGC, the Top 16 in North America get invites and that top finishers at Nationals do not receive an auto-invite (though the CP awarded is practically an auto-invite for Top 2). However, as the CP was based on TCG payouts last year I can see them being similar.

My hope is that the kicker requirements are lowered, so that the best 25-50% will get CP instead of just the best 12,5-25%. This is be the best answer to the increasing number of competitive players and the luck-based metagame that we have at the moment (could get better with XY but we don't know). It rewards players who do consistantly well at tournaments (finishing in the best third of all players). Right now, you get more if you win one tournament and completely fail all others than if you finish every tournament in the best 25% but not in kicker range / top cut. This doesn't seem right to me at the current state of the game.

I'm really glad to see these adjustments. Making top cut at Nationals is a huge deal, worth more than 10 points in my opinion, no matter what the Worlds invitation threshold was.

No surprise nothing got changed for Mexico, and we still don't get Regionals. 500 CP's and visa requirements will mean very few qualified mexicans, but not like anybody cares.

Thanks for putting that up Carlos. I definitely agree with you as well, Nationals is now worth the right amount of points compared to the difficulty and I think Regionals has become a lot better as well. With many Regionals achieving over 300 people, it should really be worth this large amount of points.

Also, I know this is a small change, but I really dig how they are getting rid of the difference between 9-12 place and 13-16. Top 16 should get the same amount of points regardless of seeding and that has now been changed.

Pretty close to what I suggested. I think these changes are fair. Pablo is right about Mexico, though. Canada shouldn't be lumped in with the United States, either.

I don't think increasing Canada or Mexico's Nationals CP would help fix our issues nor would it be appropriate. Our Nationals are nowhere close to the size of the US National Championships. That said, our CP requirement should be lower considering the barriers we have to achieve that. I don't think reaching 500 CP is a viable path for most Canadians or Mexicans without Top 4ing Nationals.

I really like the changes to Nationals points, and the Regionals points changes are nice as well, although I wouldn't have minded them to be a BIT higher. I'm a little disappointed they didn't inflate states a bit too, but at least it's a start.

Glad to see that the tournaments that most needed point adjustments got an adjustment. Though I already have an invitation to play in 2014, I'd like my friends to have a chance to join me! :)

Anybody else notice that Regionals 9-12 saw a reduction from last season? It's the only placement level that's seen a reduction.

Personally, I like the 9-12 drop. It was awkward that 9-12 and 13-16 got a different amount of points, so splitting the difference (if you don't want to change them) makes a lot of sense to me.

Considering it has now been lumped in with 13-16, and that was 40 -> 45, it rounds out evenly. IMO, 9-12 and 13-16 should always be worth the same, regardless of swiss placement.

I agree. I just think that 50 would be better for 9-16 than 45...

Preach brotha, preach! When will tpci realize that canada and mexico have NO WHERE NEAR as many opportunities as america to earn points. It's hard just to play an irl game of pokemon here let alone make it all the way out to a tournament.
TPCi, Thats great that after a complete and total fallout you "realized you made some miscalculations" after trying to tell everyone that they are wrong, and recieving a resounding NO. I wanted to give pokemon a lot of money this season. But it you guys don't want it. I'm pretty sure every other card game is more popular in my city, yes even kajudo and vanguard have more players than the 4 players at my league (aka in my city of 300,000, seeing as how my city has one league) How on earth am I supposed to get 500 championship points without driving to toronto every week?

I believe TPCi also overlooked another key element in their formulas for the new CP structure, the fact that Mexico and Canada are also part of the 'North America' region, rather than just the US.
