IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION regarding travel & hotel accommodations

The previous organizer scheduled Pokémon Regional Championships – New England at the Sturbridge Host Hotel for the weekend of May 16-17. This happens to be an extremely busy area on this particular weekend because it is the same weekend as Brimfield Antique Fair and Flea Market.

This situation may not be ideal, however with some research, planning and careful scheduling for your travel time, it is a workable situation. My years of being a Pokémon Parent in this region have taught me that Pokémon Players in New England are hearty souls. Players have adapted to traveling in stormy wintry weather, venues that are not the most ideal especially in the heat and humidity of the summer, and schedules and locations that have conflicts for many reasons. But come rain or shine, snow or traffic, players show up at their beloved Pokémon events.

Brimfield Antique Fair and Flea Market brings people from all over the world to this area during the same weekend as our event. This means that hotels in this area have limited availability, higher than average rates, and heavy traffic during peak hours.

**PLEASE allow extra time when you travel into Sturbridge Host Hotel in the morning!**

A local parent very familiar with the area and the Brimfield Fair event offers these suggestions to aid in your stay and travels.

• Check the map and look for hotels an exit or 2 away from the Sturbridge exit off the Mass Pike
• Southbridge & Worcester MA are options
• Springfield MA will likely have many hotel options but if you book hotels in Springfield, you must remember NOT to drive east on Route 20 as you will get caught in traffic in the morning.
• Look for hotels that keep you away from route 20 or through the neighboring towns that are west of Sturbridge such as Palmer, Monson, Brimfield etc. because all of these towns have Route 20 in common and attendees to this fair will be traveling this route.
• Day of the tournament: If you are traveling East on the Mass Pike, DO NOT get off Mass Pike at Palmer and attempt to travel east into Sturbridge on Route 20 unless it is BEFORE 5 a.m.
• DO get off Mass Pike AT Sturbridge. Even if there are lines of traffic getting off the highway and at the toll booths, it will be faster than going on Route 20 from Palmer. The Sturbridge Host Hotel is very close off the highway exit.
• Anything on Route 20 East of Sturbridge should be fine. There may be a bit more traffic than usual at peak hours, but it is typically safer on that side.
• If you do happen to get a hotel room that is anywhere more than a few miles of the Sturbridge Host Hotel, plan extra time to drive to and from along Route 20. Some times during the day there are lulls in traffic, but overall it’s packed as you get closer to Brimfield. It is recommended to stay away from the area between Sturbridge Host and Brimfield and leave ample time for the heavy traffic you will almost definitely encounter.
• If it rains, the traffic will likely be lighter.
• If you want to attend the Antique Fair, it is fun! Be prepared to walk A LOT! And parking is usually around $8.-$12 at various lots. There are fields full of vendor tents all along both sides of Route 20 in Brimfield.

I understand these issues may be major inconveniences. I assure you that my staff and I will do our very best to make attending Pokémon TCG & VG Spring Regional Championships – New England 2015 well worth your time and effort. See you in a few weeks.

Sincerely,
Patty Lefavour
