There are a number of pokemon that place damage counters onto your opponent's benched pokemon via their attack, Froslass is a good example for this (40 damage and sleep to the defending pokemon, place 1 damage counter on each bench pokemon). Other pokemon have effects that trigger when they are damaged the turn before, such as Bastiodon (Anger Revenge : if Bastiodon was damaged by an attack during your opponent's last turn this attack does 40 damage to 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokemon). Poliwrath's Focus Punch has similar wording, but with a detrimental effect.
My question is do damage counters placed via attack trigger effects worded like the ones above; or since it is damage counters being placed, instead of actual damage, are those conditional effects ignored?
