Pokemon Tournaments In Iowa

Anyway, does anyone know of anything going on in Iowa? Any town, any games, basically anything. Iowa has been isolated ever since Wizards.

I don't know of any Leagues in Iowa, but here in Lincoln Nebraska, there's a League at the HobbyTown USA on 66th and "O" Street. I do know that can be far away from some Iowa places, but I don't know of anywhere where Leagues are in Iowa. However, if there is demand, there is a high possibility you could get something started.

I am the League Leader in Ames, Iowa (Mayhem Collectibles), and I know there is another league in Marshalltown, Iowa as well. Both can be found in the League Locator on the official Pokemon-e TCG site (I am a bit short on time tonight to post links or more details, sorry, but I will try to add the info as time allows).

Nintendo has made me a Tournament Organizer, so look for some events in Iowa in the future. I will probably advertise any tournaments that I organize here at the 'Gym, but you can also use the Tournament locator on the official Pokemon-e TCG site as well.

I hope this helps.

Well we are having a Dragon PreRelease in St. Louis Missouri on the 15th of November. And Iowa isn't too off from Missouri so if you want to come to that, we will be having an Eon Tourney afterwards also. Go to www.gatheringground.com for more info. Or you can ask me questions.

Drakemere, I would like to know what your tournament setup is. That is, how much is video games, and how much is cards, what levels your Pokemon have to be, what cards you have to use, etc.

Why is it that nearly everyone misspells my name? ;) Perhaps it is some bizarre coincidence that I have used both Drackmere and Drakemere as character names back in my high school D&D days.

Well, since I have been the League Leader, we have put a good amount of emphasis trying to get original players (that is, players with primarily Base Set through Team Rocket cards) involved once again in the league, collecting, and the game itself.

In other words, all of our League nights are Unlimited in format, with some special activities here and there. To further try to match this goal, most of our Tournaments would typically be Unlimited format to encourage the original players to attend/participate.

We do make attempts to get the newer cards in the hands of the original players through events like booster drafts, trading sessions, and so forth, so there is a good likelihood of seeing a Modified tournament in the future at some point.

As for the video games, to this point we have not had any real video game events, but I am looking to change this. Mayhem Collectibles is a local game/hobby shop, and since it does not carry video games or systems, we typically only see a random GBA show up now and again. I have picked up a copy of Ruby and am trying to learn some of the finer points now that I have defeated the elite four and so forth. My guess is that video game events, when they occur, will probably match the typical format used for video game events.

I hope this answers your questions; feel free to contact me or post here if you have any more questions/comments/suggestions.

Ok, I am really getting interested in this league, particularly in your unlimited thing. Now, usually my decks have quite a few new ones (though less than half of my Pokes and Trainers). Would this be acceptable?

"Unlimited" is the Pokemon Organized Play term that basically allows for the use of any printed card in your deck (with the exceptions of Ancient Mew and _______'s Pikachu). As long as your deck does not have any copies of those two cards in it, it would fit right in at my league.

I hope to see you at league some Thursday night, 6-8 pm.

Most of our tournaments are held on weekends (primarily Saturdays), but we only have about 1 tournament a month. Typically, the tournaments last nearly all of the afternoon on Saturday, just so you have an idea of the timeframe.

After league this Thursday night, all of the details for the November tournament will be decided. If everything goes to plan, it will probably be an Unlimited sanctioned tournament, with some other details yet to be determined. Once I confirm/finalize the details with the store owner, I will post an announcement about it here at the 'Gym.
