Pokemon Trainers (A New Type of Card)

These Cards are based on Planeswalker cards from Magic: the Gathering and work in very similar ways.

Each card starts out with a certain number of points, you add or subtract points from the card by using abilities printed on the card. When any card reaches zero points (you have to hit zero exactly, you can't go into negatives) you discard the card and your opponent takes a prize card. Abilities that add points generally help your opponent in small ways, while abilities that subtract points hinder them or help you in larger ways. You may only have one Trainer of a certain name in play at a time. You may have up to 3 Trainers of different names in play at any time. If your opponent plays a trainer of the same name, both of you discard the card (but neither takes a prize).

I imagine all of the cards to be Ultra Rare and in a Full Art Style.

I will be using them in my Trading Card Game that I am developing for my friends and I to play.

Examples of cards would be:

A Trainer named N (4 Points)

+1: Both you and your opponent may switch the top card of your deck with a face down prize card.

-1: Look at your face down prize cards, you may switch any one card with a card from your hand.

-7: Your opponent adds one from the top of his or her deck to his or her prize cards for each prize card he or she has already taken.

Bianca the Kind (3 Points)

+2: Draw 2 cards. Your opponent may draw 3 cards.

0: Look at the top card of your deck. You may either place it back on top of your deck or place it on the bottom of your deck.

-10: Your opponent may place three cards from his or her discard pile into his or her hand. Shuffle your entire discard pile into your deck and draw cards until you have 6 in your hand.

Lance of Dragons (3 Points)

+1: Attach and energy card from your hand to one of your Pokemon. Your opponent may do the same.

-2: As long as your Active Dragon Type Pokemon remains your Active Pokemon all Energy Requirements of your Active Pokemon are Colorless.

-8: All your Dragon Type Pokemon have no Weakness, Retreat Cost and may attack for free until Lance of Dragons remains in play.

Sabrina; Possessed. (1 Point)

+1: Draw 2 cards. Your active Pokemon effected by special condition of your choosing.

-3: Special Conditions are not removed by evolving or retreating an Active Pokemon for as long as Sabrina; Possessed remains in play.

-6: Discard any Pokemon in play effected by a Special Condition. Discard Sabrina; Posessed.

Legendary Trainer Red (5 Points)

+1: Both you and your opponent may search your deck for any Non-Legendary Pokemon*, reveal it and place it in your hand.

-1: Evolve a Pokemon you played this turn.

-9: Search your deck or discard pile for the Stage 1 or Stage 2 evolved forms of all Pokemon you have in play. You may place them onto the corresponding Basic or Stage 1 Pokemon (this counts as evolving those Pokemon).

*Legendary is its own Classification in my card game (Basic, Stage 1, Stage 2 and Legendary).

What do you think? I know they seem powerful but Trainer, Supporter, Stadium and Pokemon will all be able to counter these cards as well making them more balanced.

I actually like the idea behind these cards. Its original (game wise) and the mechanics will actually make sense. However, I do have a question. If the Trainer takes damage (if he can), how would you be able to explain the damage rules for the trainers? Just thought I ask.

They do not take damage in the same way as Pokemon do. Essentially their Point Value is their HP, and it is increased or decreased by the effects of itself or other cards. For example the Mewtwo I have designed for my sets has an ability called Trainer Manipulation that states when Mewtwo becomes your active Pokemon you may add or subtract 2 points from any active Trainer (yours or your opponents). When a trainer's point value hits zero it is Knocked Out and the opposing player takes a prize card.
