Pokemon VGC: Top Pokemon

IGN posted a little blurb about the most popular Pokemon seen in the VGC Regionals Top 16 in Seattle. Thought it deserved some mention around here, seeing how many ppl have wanted to see what the top teams were.

Looks like the top Pokemon across all age groups were Jellicent, Hydreigon, and Chandelure. I was surprised to see that Haxorus wasn't featured in as many Masters teams as he was in the Jrs and Srs. There's a LOT more defensive/strategy in the Masters choices, rather than the Jr/Sr that just like pounding things mercilessly.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Not really surprised, but stoutland? Intimidate isn't that good, and why not use Krookodile for that?

Intimidate is great. With physical being the dominant attack type, it will greatly reduce most lead teams. Jellicent, Chandalure, and Hydreigon are the only real threats not affected by Intimidate.

Amoonguss goes on EVERY team for 1 reason - Rage powder/Effect Spore combo. Draw the attack, giving your other partner a clear window - and if hit physically you very well may cripple the attacker. This combo with it's amazing defenses make it a perfect candidate .

The one i am surprised that is missing is Whimsicott - but i guess people figured out that if you go prankster, you go to a Genie.

Amoonguss, stupendously overused, easily predictable, yet still one of the best plays for VGC.

Just because you can see something coming doesn't mean you can always do something about it. Whimsicott is a monster.

Stoutland? That seems odd to me. Stoutland definitely has its uses but I can't imagine it winning in terms of popularity over Krookodile or Mienshao.

I would say Cofagrigus is amazing with calm mind. (max def and HP)
And then Mienshao with Uturn and regenerator and drain punch

That list is just the 12 mokemon in the finals... not the most popular... BIG DIFFERENCE Example meinfoo is/was everywhere stoutland wasn't . Whimsacott was Everywhere. This Year is really gonna come down to luck, because there will be a lot of speed ties which will go wither way and make a big difference

Actually, they didn't post all of the data that I gave them. In addition to the Pokemon, it also listed the number of teams in the top 16 that the Pokemon was used on.

I've asked our guy here that's been dealing with IGN to have them do a more detailed article for the San Jose data, since it takes a while to pull all of this data together.

Masters:
Whimsicott - 2
Cottonee - 1
LOLWUT! Okay, this surprises me. XD

Cottonee has base Df/Sp. Df of 60/50
Whimsicott has base Df/Sp. Df of 85/75

Assuming Cottonee is running Eviolite, that gives it 90/75, making it almost identical to Whimsicott without an item. Then Whimsicott is free to run anything from Leftovers to Focus Band to whatever. Why would you run Cottonee + Eviolite over Whimsicott?

^Level 1 Sash/Endevour/ Prankster leach seed? Just a guess.

How nice of them. IGN updated the original link with the results from the San Jose Regional. Again, it's not quite what Liesik posted above, but it's something.
