Hi everyone! I was just wondering what you thought will happen once they get to Advanced Generation? I for one think this might raise Pokemon's popularity a bit---most the people I know that do not like Pokemon liked it once, and stopped liking it once the Johto episodes kept being so repetitive. And most the people at message boards like the games alot but don't like the show because of repetitiveness too. So, what do you think? Will this new world, with new Pokemon, and new companions for Ash be enough to boost Pokemon's popularity?

I think that ditching Ash for a better protagonist would really help Pokémon's popularity.

Really, would you rather some scrub little kid that gets lucky in all his battles be representing Pokémon, or someone who actually knows what he's doing?

HE DOES know what he's doing. Ash is a good trainer, friend and loyal to his pokemon and friends. He doesn't get lucky any more. That was when he was a young trainer all the way back in Kanto.

Ash makes mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, so it really isn't fair to say he doesn't know what he is doing. He is a pretty good trainer in my opinion. He gets lucky sometimes but he has done many hard things on his own. People say what a horrible trainer he is than them, because in the games they have beaten the whole thing but you have to remember---Ash is not real and plus things are dragged out on the show. If Pokemon were real and you were a 10 year old trainer who knows little about them it would be pretty hard. Ash has done alot of good things though people just overlook that because they think he is stupid. You know what I hear alot is "Ash is so stupid, he never even tries to catch the legendary Pokemon he meets." Well in most of the movies he has no chance to catch them (Like he gets his memory erased by Mewtwo, or Celebi is traveling Sam back to his time...)

Bottom line: Ash diserves a little more credit than some Pokemon fans give him. I admire him alot and think he treats his Pokemon great!

The Legendaries I understand, but Ash has passed up many chances to catch decent Pokemon when there wasn't any reason for it.

I don't think that it will raise the popularity because most people hate pokemon. But if we're lucky then some people will see commercials while watching Yu-Gi-Oh and start watching pokemon.

Speaking of Yu-Gi-Oh, I heard that it's dying down a little bit.

As for Ash's luck, the only luck he ever had was catching all those Tauros in Safari Zone. Hopefully, you remember that episode (then again, there was a bunch of episodes where Ash was training for the Pokemon League championship)

Well, I see Pokemon commercials during Yu-gi-oh all the time. And Pokemon is like the second most watched WBkids show. (The most watched being Yu-gi-oh...)

I have become the laughing stock of my school because I like pokemon. Most people just boo or change the channel when they see pokemon commercials during yugioh.

Just ignore them. Make sure that any time you're made fun of that you make no response, because it's the response that keeps them going.

As far as popularity of the show goes, KidsWB is showing Pokemon's sixth season of new episodes. Most cartoon shows are lucky to have two or three, maybe four seasons. Pokemon has had five theatrical releases (albeit two of them in limited release). Most cartoons are lucky to get one. That should be proof enough of its popularity.

"Oh no, Team Rocket's come across a wild Pokémon that isn't even a rare or legendary! And they want to catch it! I'm going to have to stop them at any cost even though I'd let a non-TR trainer catch it without hesitation!"

I've seen that once or twice, actually. And, yes, Ash knows more of what he's doing than he used to, but in reality, he's still just a novice trainer. He's improving, but he still lucks out way too much (the fact that he's seen five or six legendaries and two super-legendaries without even trying to should say something). He's still a scrub.

okay.. personally, i think that in the anime the legendaries ARE NOT MEANT TO BE CAPTURED AT ALL.. because they seem to be holding up some kind of balance in nature.. (or in some cases they appear to be worshiped oo;)

i've said it before and i'll say it again.. the sad truth is:
the show is nothing more than a way for them to show off characters so they can sell merchandise. (i.e. a 30 minute commercial) MOST of the time... the show does have it's moments of decency, but for the most part.. i mean.. geez.. why do you think they make ash keep using new pokemon instead of using the ones he's had for a long time? SO THEY CAN HAVE A REASON TO SHOW THEM ON TV.

It's not like money is an issue with the series... i doubt they're too poor to make a better one...
    if they wanted to they could make a GREAT anime series (like, based off of the pokemon adventures manga) but for some reason they just won't -_-;

or maybe they just want the show to be dumbed down for little kids (yeah, we know how much they like us older fans..) as to say "YOU SHOULDEN"T BE WATCHING THIS, ANYWAY!" to the older fans..

Alas, the "30 minute commercial" is entirely too common. Of course, kids don't mind, because it's aimed at them. That's why people love shows with actual plot... because they're so rare.

LOL! Speaking of Ash with lots of luck, he should be lucky he didn't stay in stone form in the first movie. If only those dumb clones didn't start crying...

Anyways, back to this hero stuff. Yes, Ash has done SOME good things, but now his heroism is very repetitive and this show is becoming like an anime version of Friends...it just keeps GOING and GOING and GOING and GOING...with ABSOLUTELY no direction. Think about like this. All the cast members of Pokemon and all the cast members on Friends are stuck at a Fork in the Road:

(All the people are arguing about which direction they should go)
Gary: Hey, why don't we just stay here and do absolutely nothing?
    All: yeah
    Ash: Sounds good to me

Ya see where I'm going with this? We should at least have the guy from Gold/Silver play the new Protagonist... Oh well. At least Ash will have a new wardrobe in the new series. Just how long did he wear those clothes, and did he even wash them?

The Legendaries aren't meant to be captured and probably can't be anyways.
Top 16 out of 256 in the Indigo Plateau
1st winner over Drake to win the Orange Islands Trophy.
Atleast Top 16 (probably better) out of over 200 in the Johto League Silver Conference.
    Novice??? Scrub????
He may be lucky to see those legendaries with being in the right place at the right time but as a trainer he has proved himself and those accomplishments were not just luck. :)

    re

Well, some info that may show you Ash's strength
    **SPOILERS**

    Top 16 of Kanto
    Orange Cup winner
Top 8 of Johto(He beats Gary, but loses in the next round to Harrison)
He has so far won 3 badges in Hoenn
And he has caught quite a few pokemon(not as many as Gary though)

And legendaries SHOULDN'T be caught. An example, in my original pokemon manga, a character "catches" Absol. In other words, the Absol lets him catch it, and then it controls his mind and pokemon. Legendaries are too hard for humans to control.

Wait a minute, Giovanni at one time controlled Mewtwo the most powerful pokemon there is. So I suppose it is possible for humans to control legendaries at least at some point for at least a short time.

    re

Mewtwo allowed himself to be controlled at that time though, because Giovanni told Mewtwo he could help him control his psychic powers.

Giovanni didn't control Mewtwo, per se. He talked Mewtwo into a "partnership". Mewtwo bolted when he found out that he was a tool and not a partner.
