POP got cheap?

'compensation'? to who? and from whom?

to PUI, from the manufacturer? or to the players, who didn't get a bag from a FREE event, for reasons beyond POP's control?

and 'competent management' doesn't include a budget, and adhering to it? really?

Competent management doesn't have problems with delivering it's products. If this can't be done without going into the red, there is something, really, really wrong.

Just a side note: While we feel it's fair game for members to make certain statements about PUI and/or POP, they might feel otherwise, especially for those with the Professor designation.
Might want to check the Prof guidelines before you go what they might consider too far.
Just sayin'

let me get this straight: so because my supplier, for whatever reason, can't get the material we contracted for by my deadline, it's MY fault i don't break the budget by attempting to acquire it at ANY cost (i.e. airfreight, overnight delivery to dozens of individual venues), in order to make it available at a FREE event which is one of a series through the next year?

and by considering the entire fiscal year's budget instead of just one event...in other words, the big picture instead of an early, not-as 'important' event such as worlds/nationals...my management is 'incompetent'?

Exactly, your management didn't take care of a problem that was beyond their control, and didn't take precautionary measures for something that there was realistically no way to prepare for. It is thus up to you to compensate your supplies with more free stuff, besides the ones you already give, to make up for this error beyond your control that you could not have POSSIBLY forseen. I never would have thought of that, I am so bad at business management.

How is it a Moderator on the PokeGym cannot recognize sarcasm? My entire post was basically pure satire about ixidor89's areguement....

I never said drmario or others couldnt say their opinion. I only asked him for an apology to PUI for calling them out as cheap when a manufacturer failed on their end to get the bags to PUI on time. He was venting w/o all the facts.

Most people seem to get the fact that a budget is a set number (unless your name is Bush and you have a war to defend). PUI only has so many dollars to use. They have increased lower level tourneys bc that is where the majority of the OP players get the benefit.

How hypocritical is this now? This guy can't call out PUI but you can call out Bush?

How about we insert about any president in the last several decades?? The last prez to have a balanced budget was a Democrat btw, Mr. Clinton. But people dont want to remember that part.

Taking a pot shot at Bush is really a bit tongue in cheek. Taking a pot shot at PUI for a failed contract on the other end is different. Likewise, this isnt a government forum, it is a pokemon one

I think there is an old saying that goes "You cannot please 100% of the people 100% of the time". There will always be "complainers" no matter what PUI does.

Keith

If the PUI people didnt say there were bags intended to be given out, you wouldnt even KNOW about them. Instead of being happy you got some cool prizes by having fun playing games during a Saturday afternoon, you complain about what you didn't get. Go play something that gives more stuff, you won't be missed by the people who are happy to just play at these events.

yes, yes i do.

never complain about free booster packs or anything that is free.
like has been said before, its not really free. nothing is free. you still have to buy the packs to make your decks.

i apreciate that theyre giving us (semi) free stuff at a (smei) free event, but they are funning a business and need to act like they are.
and quite frankly, displeasing the consumers is deffenatly not the right way to do it.

i dont really care about the bags and such, just sayin what im sayin.

No, I'm pretty sure you're being hypocritical.

My View

My wife and I own 2 retail stores ( Aardvarks) that sell Pokemon and most other relevant trading card games. My wife is also a PTO for Pokemon. We host organized play programs for several games including Pokemon Leagues, Tournaments and Premiere events.

The Very Real Reality is PUI and its management deserves ours (the players) thanks. There is no other company offering more to its player base than PUI.

What PUI has done with this game and the organized play program has been nothing short of amazing. The growth of Pokemon benefits every one of us who enjoys this game.

QFT!!! Don't like the support they give ( for free btw)? Don't play- then you have nothing
to complain about.

There is SO much more to our community and this game than the prize support. I feel sorry
for those of you who either don't see this or just don't appreciate it.

And the cheap shots at PUI not only are unfair but they **** me off. Send them an e-mail - don't
come on here and just bury them without knowing or understanding how their budget works.

Wow. I have my issues about how prize support is managed, and a few disagreements with the "if you don't like it, don't play" philosophy, but this thread has devolved into some very needless POP-bashing on the part of Ixi.

Now for the topic at hand...dr brings up a good question: why "are" things being scaled down, despite larger attendance than ever? Many cite a stagnant budget. I say that POP simply deserves a bigger budget. It may not mean much, but I know at least one person (no, it's not me ~_~) who's investing far less into this season just because there are only four paid trips to Orlando for _all_ Americans. I'm sure there are scores of people like the aforementioned "X" that are now spending thousands less on the game because of this one material, yet significant decrease.

It's blatantly obvious, as drmario said, that prizes have gone _way_ down (at least for the bigger levels). Are Battle Roads to blame? Eh, maybe. However, should the budget be at least large enough to accommodate the competitive player willing to dish out top dollar (several hundreds of this breed)? We're all logical enough to know that demand is unlimited (I want my $5,000,000 prize for cities NOW!!!), but we're also logical enough to realize that a more decent amount of trips is good for the brand "and" the player.

i'm curious as to what the player you're referring to above was spending their 'thousands' on: is it ALL on cards? or on travel/lodging to out-of-area events?

and regarding spending on cards: are they buying sealed boosters/boxes, or inflated singles prices from a third-party vendor?

the fact is: spending $ to travel to an event does not affect PUI income, nor does buying singles from ebay or other vendors.

it's like my decision to buy as many music cds as i can used, in order to avoid personally putting money in the RIAA's pockets: their percentage came out of the first time the cd was purchased, not my purchase from a downstream vendor.

PUI got their $...which is the same for any card, EX or 'crap common'...when the box/pack was first sold, not when 'you' paid $XX for [hot card in format] from a reseller.

the 'i spend $XXX to go to 'this' event, so POP should up the prizes' argument is irrelevant, as that expense is not going to PUI. sure it's nice that people travel, but none of what one spends doing so is going to affect PUI's bottom line and therefore OP's budget.

Realy it's not free. To play in a so called "free" event you need to spend $100's to get a good deck if you even want a shot at winning anything. My main isue with pop, is that they refuse to give the US masters more invites to worlds, even though it it has more good players than any dev. in any other country in the world. And still Juinors, who don't even have half the amount of good players, get the same amount of invetes.

Maby a better title for the post would be "why is POP so darn inflexible". Honistly, if it's writen down that cc can only have t4, and one gets 100+ in a dev., it's still cut to t4, because thats what was writen down.
