I suspect it doesn't actually prevent anything, but wanted confirmation.
If your active is a Gourgeist with 2 Psychic Energy and a Protect Cube attached to it and you use Spirit Scream, does Protect Cube protect it from the damage counters being placed? Or are they still placed, as it is 'placing damage counters'? The opponent's active is irrelevant. Thanks!

Put damage counters on both Active Pokémon until the remaining HP of each Pokémon is 10.
Protect Cube:
The Pokemon this card is attached to receives no damage from its own attacks.
