I've never read that anywhere, saying that your deck itself or prizes isn't in play. Please show me where you got your definitions.

Read the definition of "In Play".

In play: Your cards are in play when they are on the Table. Basic Pokémon cards, Evolution cards, and Energy cards cannot be used unless they are in play. (The cards in your deck and your discard pile, and your Prizes, are not in play, but your Benched Pokémon are.)

The deck itself is "the cards in your deck". Your deck doesn't consist of anything other than cards. If your deck is in play, the cards in your deck would be in play. But they aren't. Same goes for the prizes and discard.

That was messed up. I read the rulebook this morning, but I guess I was tired and read the wrong definition or something. Okay, reread it and I stand corrected.
