[gal=48208] 2009-10-22 Manectric [G] SV 66/147 [/gal]
from Alakalen:'With Garchomp it seems like this Manetric could be a great way to pull DCE back out for Garchomp to use. As long as you feel safe with it surviving a turn, throw it up and let it pull two DCE, or a DCE and a something else back out of the discard, then Galactic Switch one over to a waiting Garchomp and poketurn the Manetric and the other back up into your hand and presto you've got all the energy you need! Seems like it could be worth the spot in some SP builds like Sabelock. 3/5'

Wow. First on a really weak card... I suppose this could be playable if you used it's energy absorbing attack to attach DCE's and Bronzong G'd them onto something else or Turned it so you can get some energies back without using your Aaron's Collection. I don't see this being used for much else, really.

Third wow old card. This Magnectric can take 2 energy from the discard and attach them to himself for free. Decent effect, but needs an engine to dump the energy into the discard pile.
The second attack does 30 for :lightning: :colorless: and 50% chance of paralysis. This attack can be used with energy gain to attack turn 1 for 30 damage, but it is not much.
It can be an okay card, but its damage output is too low, and the effect is flippy. It could work as a staller starter, but needs E-gain so it is not really worth it.
Play it only in fun decks.

3/10

Rewind...why choose a bad card to re-review?

Anyways, today's...uh, rewind CotD is Manetric G from SV, a fairly bad SP Pokemon. Statwise, 80 HP is about average for most SP cards, x2 Weakness to :fighting: is bad, -20 Resistance to :metal: is...well, better than nothing, and :colorless: to Retreat is cheap. Energy Absorption by itself is a great attack, getting you 2 Energy out of your discard and onto Manetric G for no Energy at all. However, Manetric G has one pitiful attack in Thunderfang, dealing 30 and a chance at paralysis for an overpriced :lightning::colorless: (though incidentally, if you feel inclined to waste an Energy Gain on this guy, the attack cost itself becomes reasonable). And with no Lv X form to draw on, Manetric G has no real place in any competitive SP decks.

Modified - 1/10 (No use here, 1 lousy attack to deal damage with and is OHKOed by things like Garchomp C Lv X)
Limited - 9/10 (Very solid Pokemon to bring out here, he can self-power one turn, then go on attacking the next)
Unlimited - 1/10 (No use here...really, there is none, there are infinitely more playable Pokemon)

A Rewind! Glad to see that come again! It's been a while since we had a rewind CotD post.

80 HP is great for a basic. Fighting weakness somewhat hurts, the steel resistance is generally OK, and the retreat cost is average.

Manectric G seems to not do much. It does, however, have the exact same attack as Mewtwo MD does. For no energy, you can bring back up to two energies from the discard, and then you attach them to Manectric G. In turn, this is a nice way to bring back energies, especially when you could combo it with Bronzong G. The second attack, though, doesn't impress me. It does 30 for two, and if you can get a coin flip of heads, you paralyze the defending Pokemon. Now, if only you can hit a little harder with that attack, then it would considered to be a nice attacker.

Overall 2/10 in modified, 4/10 in limited, and 1/10 in unlimited

In modified, this card can't honestly do much. It is a bad attacker, and it can get owned by Donphan; however, there is a factor that "saves" Manectric rating wise. Energy Absorption is great to bring back energy. You use the attack to get two energies back onto Manectric G. Then, you can use Bronzong G to move the energy onto another one of your Pokemon. Now that can create a nice combo. Otherwise, outside of this, this card is rather a not-so-good card.:nonono:

In limited, it sees some better usages. Again, It has an awesome way to bring back energies. In fact, you can attach the energies this way in one turn. Then, on the next turn, you hit for some quick damage. Of course, a major problem here again is that it can't hit that hard. Still, it is a nice card to use when you need to damage something fast.

In unlimited, this card isn't going to do much here as well. You see, Energy Absorption is great to attach energies onto to it still, but there are way better option for this card in terms of grabbing energies from the discard. Plus, it is still a bad attacker to use here. Thus, I doubt it will do well in unlimited.:nonono:

Energy Absorption is what this card has going for it. However, you have to find a way to move the Energy off of Manectric G, whether by Poke-Turn, Bronzong G, or Lucian's Assignment, or other things. I could see it working in several different types of decks, but the key is that Manectric G must be able to survive one attack. With only 80 HP, that may be a tall order.

Its ability to recover Special Energy is very helpful.

And in Limited, Thunder Fang is actually one of the most economical attacks on a Basic from that set!
