[gal=34939] 2009-12-6 Rotom MD 13/100 [/gal]

Hatter™ sez: 'This card should receieve a second look for the simple reason that it can be a setup engine in the new format. With the ongoing talk of Bronzong SF + Engineer's Adjustment as an engine, Rotom could suffice as an above average starter that gets you 2 energy back for the price of 0. Yes, it does have low HP, but, the great thing is that you can run Charon's Choice to switch to another Rotom out of nowhere and catch your opponent off guard by attacking them with an oven or even a fan! In conclusion, Rotom MD should be looked at because it will jump to the top of the list of viable starters for the 2010-2011 format. '

Today's rewind CotD is Rotom from MD, imo still a pretty nice Pokemon to have around. Statwise, 60 HP is average for a Basic, +20 Weakness to :dark: is fine since :dark: isn't played as much beside ttar, -20 Resistance to :colorless: is good, and :colorless: to Retreat is cheap. Dual Trans is still a very nice option to set Pokemon up, costing no Energy to perform and getting 2 Basic Energy out of your discard and onto 1 of your Pokemon is never a bad thing. Energy Reflect should be avoided, :lightning::colorless: for a mere 30 and having to move an Energy off Rotom and onto one of your Benched Pokemon is bad.

Modified - 7/10 (Goes great with Call Energy for a first attack, then Dual Trans Energy onto stuff)
Limited - 8/10 (Good at mid-game recovery when you have some Energy in the discard to use)
Unlimited - 1/10 (Not much use, better ways to manipulate discarded Energy)

This rotom can become a great energy accelerator for next format. When this card is used with engineer's adjustments or ninetails' pokepower, the discard becomes filled with energy. Then this critter can attach 2 of them to a pokemon for free.
This engine would still need to be tested out, but could be a good one next format. The only bad thing is that the deck needs to find a quick way to discard cards, and some options are: Volkner's, Regice, Lunatone and Engineer's adjustments.
In a deck dedicated to discarding energy and using this as an engine, I give it 6/10

This card can actually be a pretty good starter or something for mid-game. Dual Trans can really help out, since you pay no Energy for the attack and recover 2 Energy cards. It could also be fun to use with Charon's Choice, for use in a fun Rotom deck.

However, if you start with a lone Rotom and go first, you're in trouble. (But, that's true for most cards.)

Another Rewind! Awesome, especially when we get to review a Rotom in today's CotD post!:thumb:

60 HP is average for a basic. The dark weakness is actually not too bad, the resistance is very good, and the retreat cost is average.

Rotom seems to be very good for bringing back energies from the discard. Its first attack, Dual Trans, for no energy, can let you grab up to two basic energies from your discard pile, and then you attach them to one of your Pokemon. The second attack lets you do 30 for two, and then you move an energy attached to Rotom to one of your bench Pokemon. Well, certainly, it can be helpful in many cases.

Overall 7/10 in modified, 8/10 in limited, and 3/10 in unlimited

In modified, this card can actually have some nice potential. Its ability to grab two energies from the discard can help a lot for many decks, especially since it can do so for no energies. Moreover, it has a really good resistance, being able to resist most of Garchomp C attacks. Relfect Energy can help in some cases when you need to move energies to the bench too. Indeed, Rotom can actually be a good card for once.:thumb:

In limited, this card sees even better usages than it does in modified. Dual Trans can help a megaton mid-game when most of your basic energies are in your discard, and when you are in the need of an attacker to come and out attack and will need energies from the discard to do so. If you manage to pull this card out in a limited tournament, I would recommend running this card as it can be helpful tech here as well.

In unlimited, this card is still great to use with its Dual Trans and Energy Relfect attacks. Rotom can be a great tech to get back energies from cards like Energy Removal here as well. Unfortunately, there are better ways to get energy back from the discard here, so this card may not be that effective here sadly, but I think it still has potential nevertheless.
